Another soaking yesterday and not looking like any planting in the next two weeks with 170 acres unplanted which might not get done , how much is left to do , I recon most people around here are 1/2 to 3/4 planted at best.
Anyone managed to grab bits? I grabbed some real light bits but any clay and it’s a wet shitty mess. Not sure when to throw the towel in and go for sfi
We had 45mm of rain in last 24 hours!!
So I tried to work out the weight of water per acre. Somehow I got to 1111.5 tonnes per acre!! Somehow I must of got it wrong
@Dave W thinks I'm an idiot😃
what is the real weight of water per acre?
Sorry if this is elsewhere.
Over here in (historically) sunny Essex we have a long term average of 495 mm.
We had 662mm in 2021 making it a wet year, 432 in 2022 making it a dry year.
This year we have been 'lucky' to receive 808mm which is a cool 163% of normal.
How about some of you...
We seem to get a storm ………. , something something or other once every 3 or 4 weeks these days.
Are there really any more storms these days, or is it the media hyping the storms up now they have names. :scratchhead:

I’m not religious in any way. But looking around some drilled Wheat earlier in the week and the amount of Slug damage, I found Myself describing it to someone as Biblical.
Can we draw any parallels to the stories of...
Anyone else normally drilled up by now and not started.
Ditches are down and water is getting away but it's sitting on top and drains have been jetted last year etc so they should be fine.
It's like it's sat on top but there must be 6 inch of water to plough in more in places
West Lancashire...
Starting to get a little worried now. Spring seed might be short... Weather doesnt look great on the forcast - given how sh!t harvest was, could we be in for just as bad an autumn?
Let’s start a harvest 23 thread! So how far do we all think we are from starting? Winter barley rapidly ripening here early start is on the cards. First week of july maybe, rape just starting to lose its greenness also!
So it’s clear from many other threads that SFI seemingly offers very little or nothing that’s attractive to livestock / grassland
so what do you want ? Use this thread to outline your own livestock / grassland SFI standard that both delivers public goods and natural capital for tax payers...
I know it's very early still, but looks like my neighbour is making a bit of hay on a small field that he lets people camp on.
Couple of others seem to be underway with haylage.
I've just been and mowed 8 acres that is going to be haylage for a chap this evening.
It will be at least 10...
