Is the tri axle worth having? Legally speaking it just eats into the load capacity of the trailer, but just wondering how stable a 14’ tandem would be?

So I have a 40k 24 speed powershuttle massey 4355.
The only problem is that I'm getting 30 ish k flat out top gear, hare.
The rear tyres are getting towards an upgrade, at about 15% , but would that be enough to slow it down so much?
Any ideas what to look at/for elsewhere?

Been looking at Landcruisers to replace a TD5 Disco who’s chassis is having to be welded up again. Swayed towards a 100 series 4.2 diesel owing to its higher 3.5 ton towing capacity, are these a good buy and is there anything to be careful of, mindful these are now approaching 20 years old?
