Hello there fellow forum members!
I am looking for advice from you regarding a 7-day trip to France in late April that my better half and I intend to make.
Firstly, we would like to get to see as much farming and agricultural regions as possible. My background is in beef and dairy farming, but...
With SFI payments being made already to farms around the country. Suppliers are seeing a surge of orders, raising concerns that a shortage of supply is on the way.
We’ve been seeing massive variation in quality of seed mix and price of packs all the way from eco mixes that meet the standard...
My insurance is rocketing as everybody else’s is so looking at ways of cheapening it. We have cover on everything farm wise . When I asked what is costing the most too insure or what has gone up the dearest there saying farm buildings . Ours are covered for most things but does everyone have all...
Looking at spring beans as a break option for some failed OSR this coming spring. Has anyone experience growing? Heavy land. Understand a fairly low input break crop and have a market for them local. Toying between that and a kings soil structure mix saw good results five years ago the...
Folks, why we aren’t we getting organised and using the massive support that the European farmers (and Canadian truckers) are getting by not protesting in at least some form here I’m Britain?
Before we all believe the NFU’s mantra about ‘lack of public support’, just pop onto YouTube and read...

A recent ADAS study has confirmed that cover crops can both refine nitrogen (N) usage and protect water quality.
This work was co-funded by Affinity Water and Portsmouth Water under the aegis of a project known as ‘Nitrogen release from Cover Crops’...

The Ulster Arable Society (UAS) is calling for the introduction of bespoke measures to support crop production in Northern Ireland.
UAS president, Barclay Bell, has confirmed that representatives from the organisation will meet policy development...
What’s the preferred method for sowing grass seed now days? I will want to sow into cultivated wheat stubble. I am thinking of getting a Vaderstad BioDrill 180 to mount on our Rapid box drill, or is a grass rake/seeder combination better?
Still considering the "sow after winter barley" approach for the ahl2.
Would replace a break crop.
All mixes contain a cereal, - spring barley or spring wheat.
Anybody worried about not getting a clean cereal break with this approach. Or is Feb to September a long enough break?
With the DEFRA payments for not growing crops being a better risk-reward than growing crops. Should we seek to get EVERY ARABLE FARMER to declare they are going 100% into "Herbal Lays" etc. and 0% into combinable crops. (Maybe 0% feed crops, as I know many farmers are a bit workaholic)
We could...
Right we've had a load wheat rejected because apparently it's hard wheat.
We only grew 34 acres, was all skyscraper seed bought from merchant. All stored in same bulk.
Had 3 loads away, 4 th load rejected. Going into Cameronbridge for Diageo.
Apparently they do a Single Kernel...
Does anybody have a turbo jet seeder mounted on opico grass harrows? I would like to have a go at mounting mine but can't decide the best way to do it.
I had a chat with a mate today about year end valuations. Both of us despite being 30 years in the job are pretty niave doing this. As I expect to make a £ I wonder if I am doing it to my benefit or not.
For growing crops it's contractor costs plus variable costs to date.
For crops in store...
Getting a bit lazy here rather than look for it but has the latest round of options made it any more feasible for livestock farmers to enter SFI without cutting back on production?
Hi all,
I'm looking at a second hand Teagle XT48.
Looks to be in good condition. It wont be doing a huge amount of work.
What are the main things to look out for with them?
I'm hoping to spread grass seed with it. How good are they at doing this?
I'm guessing it will mean going from 10-12m...
