Hello, we've a 2 day old calf and it doesn't seem to have taken anything off the mum's back teats although is getting some from the front. As you can see udder pretty red and taut, esp at back. Am worried about mastitis and the is cow a bit uncomfortable, although eating fine and moving about...
I'm wondering if anyone has experience with Shorthorns and/or NDS and could tell me about them?
Interested in a good grazing cow with quality milk, and being in Lancashire I thought of these (unless there's another traditional northern dairy breed?)
Thanks, James
After watching his videos on Facebook for 6 months and really enjoying them I’ve just coughed up £299 plus vat and bought his full course.
I spent good few years looking over trimmers shoulder’s. Some I liked some I didn’t and then 8 years doing my own, I’ve never had any proper training...
Hi, looking for peoples thoughts on some calves I've bought ages ranging from Feb 2020 to June 2020 and wondering how many would put them to the bull/AI this year and what would you put them to?

Hi
We are quite new to the suckler cow businesses after being in stores for 8 years. We have now had 26 cows calves with strong calves at foot.
What do you find the most profitable...??
Sell the calves off the cows?/sell the cows off alone?/ sell cows with calves at foot?
They are all hereford...
I noted with intrest the recent statement by the chairman of the Limousin society re abuse of its staff on social media. I know there have been some strange goings on but didn’t realise it had got that bad.
Being a board member and trustee of a few organisations it seems the folk with off centre...
long story short, me and my father used to milk dairycows, were lowland farm, east midlands, we stopped milking for various reasons but rather then sell the herd i retained our britishblueX & herefordX heifers and AI'd the dairycows with sexed stabiliser and salers semen in our last year to give...
Interested to know people’s opinions on which breed of stock bull they use and why? What they put them over, there kill out grade and %. Iv currently 4 lims, 2 blue, 2 Charolais, 1 shorthorn, but I’m finding my lims to wild even tho there hand bedded daily, so looking to change breed. I’m...
Is there a demand for young fattening bulls? Iv always cut mine a few days old but fancy trying to leave a few whole. I sell 50% of mine 10/11 months and the rest I finish at home. Usually get U/R grades. What grades would you get with bulls? Most are lim/blue/AA few shorthorn cows, all sired by...

When you walk into the suckler housing belonging to Brian Brady from Co. Cavan, there are no signs of your typical commercial Limousin, Simmental or Charolais cow.
Instead, the shed houses good traditionally-bred Angus cross cows with a mixture of Shorthorn breeding...
Hello all,
Is it wanting to know if anyone is still milking small herds or any size herds in older style parlours e.g. byres, step up parlours or abreast. It would be interesting to see some photos of them if possible also how long does it take you to milk the cows through it.
Many thanks all.

It’s not too often that farmers get an insight into operations at an AI bull stud, especially due to the strict quarantine and biosecurity measures that have to be followed.
Recently, AgriLand was fortunate to speak with Brendan Regan and his son Niall from Coney...

Have a 3 year old cow who dropped her 2nd calf 5 weeks ago (no problems previously), found her in the shed the other day having a seizure. She was laid on her side legs fully extended paddling with her eyes rolled to the back of her head, duration of seizure circa 2 minutes, it has since become...
it’s probably a bit daft but I’m considering a house cow or two to provide milk for my family. With my dad we have a small sucker herd, it’s a hobby for us and I do it purely as I enjoy it rather than as a business. We get through a fair bit of milk and it would be nice to get it straight from...
