Do we have a seed drill mindset?
Some years ago Clive Bailye arranged a trial of 10 or so different direct drills on a level uniform 50 acre field. There was a spare plot which they seeded with a fertiliser spinner and then scratched over the surface. It performed far better than expected...

Would older and retired farmers care to give their opinion s on slugs causing so much damage to autumn cereals and flea beetles causing so much damage on OSR, as well as slugs.
Just wondering how long ago it was that you started growing Winter Oilseed Rape, did you have much trouble with Flea...
Could the current weather, Flea Beetle and Slug issues be described as Biblical?
I’m not religious in any way. But looking around some drilled Wheat earlier in the week and the amount of Slug damage, I found Myself describing it to someone as Biblical.
Can we draw any parallels to the stories of...
Just hired a 1000cc Diesel Polaris Ranger and its used just 15 litres of diesel covering 80 ha of land at 12 metres. Should have recorded hours but i'd guess 8 hours actual work. Seems extremely frugal?
What are other people recording, was hoping to get a lively petrol UTV for our own longer...
Thought I'd start a poll on whether any/many members are planning on chucking the towel in given the multi faceted sh!t we seem to be dealing with at the moment. And whether you could be persuaded against it.

Anyone get on well using a quad and attachments, particularly spinner and sprayer? We have some steeper ground that we can't spread fertiliser on unless it is dry and consequently it isn't as productive as it could be. Also struggle to get sprayer here on time for 5-10 acres. Thought we could...
The electric Citroen ami looks a fairly ideal farm run about, if fitted with gator wheels it should be fairly handy except limited ground clearance? At £6650+VAT its quite a bargain compared to a gator? It can only be a matter of time until someone does a lift kit for it...
Anyone else normally drilled up by now and not started.
Ditches are down and water is getting away but it's sitting on top and drains have been jetted last year etc so they should be fine.
It's like it's sat on top but there must be 6 inch of water to plough in more in places
West Lancashire...

New research suggests that applying a silicon biostimulant to crops for farm-saved seed can help to improve the resilience of a subsequent crop and protect from potential slug damage.
A recent study by i2L has shown applying Sirius (silicon) boosts...
Drilled a couple of fields of winter barley on Saturday and wondering wether to get them rolled tomorrow before rain Wednesday or leave till the spring. Ground conditions were reasonable but certainly not perfect for barley with the very odd damp patch. Having a glorious day today and the top...
