Hi,
Really could do with trying to get a bit more old tired grassland reseeded next year. I toyed with idea of dd forage rape this summer but been a bit tight on grass and don't really have much use for forage rape/ turnips etc.
Do you think I could risk reseeding it with Italian eye grass in...
Often get these rings appearing which are fungal growth. What I'm interested in is the grass growth is far better.
Does the fungus fix nitrogen or something similar?
due to the price of Gas as the price of Gas hits €300 per MWh

This is a thread for those who feel guilty about cluttering up dear old GUTH’s beloved price tracker with the chit chat that stop us all being that miserable our families would throw us all out to sit with the dog in the porch. All are welcome, you can even post prices if you want. The only rule...
RESOURCE EXPLAINED:
Perennial weeds such as thistle and couch-grass can hinder crop growth and yields in organic arable cropping systems. A good crop rotation system is vital to help you manage perennial weeds through preventive control. This practice abstract, produced through the Organic...
Just drilling for a customer, apart from forage rape and turnips what else can you see?
It's got a green label so I guess it's certified?
It's not purchased from anyone on here before anyone panics....
Anyone use one of these ? The type that’s towed behind a quad.
I rather foolishly have paddocks let to horsey women and parts of them are really thick with thistles and rather than spraying the grass off I’m thinking whether a trailed weed wiper would work when done regularly
Any one care...
Hi all,
Looking for recommendations on the best way to get some totally unproductive very weed laden ( thistle, dock & general rubbish) ground into an arable rotation. It's useless to me in its current state after years of the previous owners ring feeding cattle on it 365 days a year.
Not sure...
Seen a video on the Scottish farmer Facebook of a guy opening a field for a combine with a syth, not many do that these days, lv still a couple in the loft in the barn, one has hardly any blade left, the men that cut with them are long gone, although l do mind an old guy cut the bankings of this...
Is the above poisonous while alive? As I generally understand it that animals generally don't touch it while alive but if cut and baled it can be eaten by animals and become poisonous. I am right some women on the local rag is arguing with me 🤣 thanks
Good afternoon all,
I wanted to let you know that we've opened the Sustainable Farming Incentive for applications today.
You can find a summary of what's available in this initial rollout here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/a-summary-of-the-sfi-in-2022 - we'll be expanding the scheme to cover...
Hi, inexperienced small land owner here with a few acres of pasture. Normally I would have my pasture mown for hay once a year and grazed by sheep later in the year, which keeps the grass under control but the soil organic matter is 4% and I want to get it higher. I have quite quite a bit of...
Is it dry as a nuns with anyone else? Another couple weeks without a decent rain and east yorkshires going to start turning brown, and I don't just mean the crops!
Following on from the great help you gave with my derelict field ... weed war battle no. 2 Docks (and nettle and thistle) in places I don't want to plough and reseed .... I was intending spot spraying the patches or weed with Grazon Pro. Should I just use this as instructed or is it advisable...
Currently going around our various grass areas for silage / haylage fields which cover 3-4 miles in any direction and have observed the following. 2-3 miles of riverbank grazing being topped because they've no stock but are happy to claim bps , another mile or so rank with thistles which they...
Hi
With current glyphosate prices high and static what sensible rates does everyone use of a generic 360 to get control.
When it was £50 a tub it was ok to put a ‘bit’ in for good measure but at £150 a tub it’s adding possibly £15-20 acre if you add in a wetter!
Thoughts on everyones rates...
Reseeded this field last year for the first time in possibly 30 years. Obviously awakened 30 years of thistles too. Grazed tightly for 2 weeks, reasonable catch of clover.
Spray or cut?
We have about 4 acres which we started the process of restoring last autumn .... things have not gone as planned - Help!
The history .... about 3-4 years ago someone else managed the land and reared pheasants on it. The huts were removed and the ground left.
The area covered by the huts and...
