My hydraulics have quit raising discharge door and unloading table on TMR mixer. It is also whining when using front end loader. Any suggestions on a fix?
So for nearly 10 years I’ve fed the same blend and ingredients with just an alteration in inclusion to get desired protein from one bin through robot and oopf. It worked well and did 9200/9300
Just 6/7 good quality ingredients. No extras.
I did used to feed regumaize 44 ad lib in winter which I...
Losing 100 acres of silage ground to our landlord, flipping our cow grazing acres and a bit more grazing ground into silage ground, keeping them in 365 tho, what silage replacers could I use? I’m thinking fodder beet, crush it on farm and buy cleaned, 7kgs a day would save roughly 300 ton of...
Hi
I am looking into bed and breakfast cattle, and looking for any help/advice as I am new to it all.
I will be getting them in around 150kg and taking them to around 550-600kg.
I am scratching my head on what will be best for wait gain while keeping costs down, I am wanting them in and out...
Our place is now utterly saturated, so much so the tractor slithers about on what flat ground we have whilst feeding bales.
I moved the boss ladies cows and am now setting the big shed up ready for housing the in bye flock , typically the forecast looks a little more settled next week.
Anyone...
Have had what has turned out to be a neospora outbreak, not sure on source but 20% of 170 adult cows have aborted most of which in a 3 week period and milk testing at drying off looks like another 50%+ is infected, how have people got on managing a large neospora outbreak out of a herd?

Christmas day for a farmer still requires the wellies to be put on and jobs being completed, as livestock must still be cared for properly.
Just because there is work to be done, does not mean that you have to spend Christmas day in the yard, rather...
We’re having some issues currently with cow performance being pretty poor and not consistent. Had a meeting with nutritionist and we’ve played around with some things and hopefully things will improve.
Discussed with vets who also have a nutritionist and run the same program as far as I’m aware...
So a well known independent foot expert mentioned at our recent Arla meeting that Biotin added to concentrate is good for lameness.
Do others have it added? Does it make a difference?
Thanks,

This is a slightly bizarre and definitely pointless thread but putting hay out yesterday for our dry cows and thinking what a fantastic feed it is; no plastic, no effluent, easy as pie to handle and transport, rumen friendly, cows love it.
Got me wondering; does anyone know of anyone still...
Does anyone feed their heifers TMR if so how many rations do you feed to the different ages. I'd like to feed weaning to 9m with the diet feeder to get away from chucking a lot of nuts on top of straw or silage.

Wondered what works best if anything does. Starlings been here about a week, more every day.
Turn up as it's coming light, away by dusk. We feed on the outside of the sheds so they have plenty to eat. They perch on every bar, every gate. The cows are covered.
Been banging the 12 over there...
Firstly can I say this is for suckler cows, but thought id get more replies here.
We made very dry 1st cut pit silage back in the middle of june. I haven't had the analysis back for this 1st cut but its more like chopped hay. They are eating it ok ish.
I am thinking of adding some water to...
Tossing the idea around for next year of giving the cows free choice access to pasture and feeding tmr still as the available acres for grazing is not enough to fully supply enough forage for the herd. My question is how do you go about keeping a “balanced ration” in that situation? This is a...
Our parlour feeders are knackered. Keeping them going with welding up anything which breaks and filling in gaps but probably got another year tops in them, its a loft with manual feeding and drops of .9kg each time. Not keen on replacing them as I think really long term the parlour will move but...
