A bit of fun here.
While out pulling Ryegrass this afternoon I could see that there are a few anomalous wheat plants, usually taller plants with a bigger ear.
So I started to look for the biggest one I could find.
Here it is, a Grafton Wheat ear at 14.5cm tall,
Can you find a bigger one?
ive asked this before but why ? if its true that there is such a massive massive ive said it twice ? in every industry from the hospitality industry, such as bar work in resturants and pubs, now thats not so bad a job ? lorry drivers, 40,000 were mentioned in one paper to NHS workers, to...
Just sat pondering the dreaded blackgrass while I enjoy a Saturday morning brew. I have been trying to think of the way the weed grows throughout the season and if it has weakness? For the life of me I can't think what this weakness might be to even begin to exploit this as a means of control...
I'm in my fifth year of strip tilling following a more traditional plough/power harrow based system. I had some decent results in the first few years but the last two wet autumn /winters have not been so great.
My main problem is the blackgrass is getting out of hand, I don't think my...
I know there’s another general BG thread but this is just a particular question about chemicals.
Basically what are your ‘chemical’ approaches to BG. We aren’t doing a proper job so looking for ideas please.
Up until now we have not had a problem with black grass. But one field seems to have got away on us. It’s first wheat after osr and would expect it yield about 10t/ha. There is not enough grass to effect the yield but too much to pull by hand. The area is about 12ac which would be about 4% of...
I sprayed some of my wheat with it's T1 last week and added 0.1l/ha moddus grudgingly. It's now looking more scorched than I would like to see and now I'm faced with the decision as to whether to add topik I think for wild oats in with the T2 when the time comes or leave it. Normal treatment is...
Just doing my first BPS application (first for me, not the land parcels in question), and just want to check my understanding of the temporary grassland and permanent grassland rules.
As I understand it:
Temporary grassland can only exist for 5 consecutive years before it...
Has anyone got red/brown tipped leaves. Agronomist thinks its the cold dry weather we've had, I hope anyway!
He said other clients have the same.
Sprayed 10 days ago with
1.25 l Chlormequat
0.5 l Tubosan
0.1 l Moddus
0.4 l Starane

Started spraying after 10 in the morning and...
We have some land that we rent on an AHA is up for a review this year. It's typical heavy land so not suitable for roots ect . The landlord has appointed a new agent one of the large national ones. He came to view the land last week and said they were looking for an increase of about...
Growers and agronomists now face the dilemma of an early application to remove competition from emerged wild oats, or holding off to allow more weeds to germinate.
Syngenta grassweeds technical manager, Georgina Wood, urges Axial Pro treatment as soon as conditions allow, once weeds are...
Between the devil and the deep, have Oats and Linseed to drill, but a field of OSR that was destined to be sprayed off has got to the stage its now worth keeping. So need to cut one of the crops areas.
As I've grown neither in the past its a coin toss unless the collective wisdom of TFF can...
I am looking for farmers in the east that would be interested in hosting some of my trials. I am looking for the following weeds: speedwell, Poppy (In a winter wheat and barley crop) and Wild oats (In a winter barley crop).
How many litres of milk do you get from a tonne of oats? Oatly have put forward proposals to open a factory in Peterborough to produce 300 million litres of oat milk. Is this an opportunity for UK arable?
