How did we ever manage coming out of gateways with horses and carts when you couldn't see up and down the road until the horse was in the road!

Can we see a multitude of applications for new field entrances that councils can not refuse!

Who do bikers expect to sue when a deer/bird/rabbit/bee hits them because they are not riding to the road situation?
lets just stop with the generalisations not just bikers anyone could run into you and vice versa
this is the blame claim culture we live in you should be by now used to this as with all the hse rules and regs the courses for every aspect of life you need etc etc etc ,not just there for safety but to minimise the blame when it all goes tits up

What about meeting another high speed biker? :D

It's not just bikers that drive too fast, most vehicles on the road drive as if there is nothing around the next bend, the fault lies with the driving test and instructors who encourage pupils/candidates to drive up to the limit. I took my HGV in Exeter, the instructor had to keep telling me to 'Push on get up to the limit' even in the centre.

I know not all motor bikers are knobs, but had one try to over take me on a back road thats 10ft wide!! Maybe he was in a rush, but the road gose to a dead end on the cliff top!!.. after failing to over take me i pulled in to let him pass, then to my surprise he got off his bike in the middle of the road, took his bike helmet off and started swinging for me with it and ssying how i nearly killed him!!!!

It's true you cannot be seen to be too hesitant with your HGV test but no examiner would fail you for being careful and keeping below the speed limit where appropriate. A lot of HGV driving is about anticipation, proper observation and creating your own manoeuvring space

My entrance is partly obscured to the right by a large sign warning traffic they are approaching a thirty limit. To right limit is 50mph, have nosed LR and car out on numerous occasions with nothing coming from the right to have a bike up my exhaust before I've got 100 yards to the 30 mph zone. Panic sets in when they realise at that speed they can only get round me by overtaking on a blind bend going uphill. Happens at least weekly always on w/e or bank holiday aggravating factor is in every case excessive speed of the biker. They have 500 yards from going over brow in which they can ease up before they pass our entrance but seem incapable of slowing down. Unsurprisingly as soon as road straightens out in the vilage they overtake breaking speed limit as they accelerate through the village. Not sure what I can do to make this entrance safer as council won't move sign. I do keep it well strimmed so they can at least see it as they fly past! It appears this road is actually a race track and I shouldn't be on it. Moving sheep across from fields opposite one early Sunday morning the wide girth bikers flying out of the thirty limit met friends LR with hazards on and large sign warning of sheep in road, had 250 yards past LR to stop which they did, their language was choice, apparently I should not move sheep over roads, although maybe a few more F's in their comments. Biker ran up back of his stationary mates and was surprised when his insurer held him and not me responsible for the accident!

Many years ago, when I was still milking, our collections went from using rigids to artics and one of the drivers failed a couple of times. This was some where in Gloucester, coming out of a 30 into a 40 then back into a 30. I don't know how long the stretch of 40 was but the driver knew the road well and didn't try too much to accelerate upto 40 knowing he would be slowing down again soon after. Now, whist it wasn't an outright fail, he did receive a minor for failing to achieve the speed limit.

Write to or email the council saying their sign is a HSE hazard to you and other road users and you willl now hold them responsible for any accidents, they will soon move it once you have it in writing, I had a new sign put up by an entrance to a set of buildings which was fine in a car but completely blocked my view from a tractor, Wilts council refused to move it saying the sign has to be within so many mtrs of a junction blah blah, I emailed them and said fine they were now responsible as their sign was causing a hazard, sign went within a week .

well talk about the kettle calling the pan black,
for a start thank you to @shag for putting his side of the story,
but for whatever the reason is, the bottom line is, you went onto the public highway without any insurance to do so, this is clear cut, and no getting away with that, you were breaking the law,
as for the motor bike, we dont know if he was speeding or not, I can only asume it was a 60 mph zone,
and yes he should be riding as the road conditions dictate, and if it was a narrow country lane with bends, then he should of killed his speed a good bit,
BUT as for all the comments about the bike riders going to fast, most of you lot should take a look in the mirror, as today i was following a Fendt doing 40 mph, and someone might want to correct me if i am wrong, but is the speed limit for that tractor only 25 mph, and tractors more than this every day, infact most of them are driven flat out day in and day out,
and on a week to week basis, i see far more tractors breaking the speed limit, than motor bikes,

as for the insurance issue, there has only been a couple of comments on this, most of you either have not read that part, or brush past it thinking its ok to go on the road without insurance,
and really this is a far bigger issue than the speeding,
so before you you all start going on, take a closer look at home,

Bit like lorry drivers driving to the speed limit on single carriageways
