To be honest I don't see how anyone can make a profit at present in combinable crops with more land than they themselves can manage to work with a little harvest help. Or cut with a £10,000 combine, plant with a £15,000 tractor with a max of another £10,000 for everything else.
On top of that a rent that is reasonable max £150 hectare or owned and full SFP and a large bunney hugging project.
Thats what we were paying bk in 2008....
If only it was that now eh

Got chatting with the £250/acre dude in a pub last night..so I asked him how he did it at £250

He gets £70/acre BFP = £180/acre

£90/acre fert and sprays = £90 profit (y).......EASY!!

I couldn't believe what I just heard:eek:........I didn't question it:scratchhead:

And there is the problem, his calculator isn't faulty, he just can't use it.

Never question a farmers costings as he will aways prove you wrong, just live with the fact that you, never see a farmer on a bike

growing a perennial crop then that harvest itself !

even then his Vc spend is impressive at £90/ac !! most would be close to double that in reality

It doesn't make sense at all??
No mention of crops/yields/prices or machinery
He's a nice enough chap though

clearly has no real grasp of his costs if he really thinks £90/ac is covering VC's ......................not that should come as a suprise to anyone who thnk £250 rent is sensible for combinable crop

I guess he's a wealthy man who already owns land or have none farming income or tax to avoid !

I don't see the problem with saying the rent is effectively 180 £/ac due to the above calculation. What's warped about that?
Do most rental agreements involve the tenant or the landlord receiving the BPS cheque?

i guess its not a warped as thinking he's only spending £90/ac on vc's or ignoring the cost of any operation to actually grow and harvest a crop

the BPS destination depends on who holds the entitlements

My mother always says farmers are by far worse gossips than women. Some of the things you hear are amazing. apparently my farm was under water over Christmas (we are near the highest point in east Anglia)

I heard that you had to apply slug pellets using a boat.

Do you, or do you not, deny that you own this boat? Do you also deny that this boat saw action this winter? If not, it must be true that at least part of your farm was under water. QED. The rumour mill has it, the rumour mill has it.

I do not own that boat, although I'm sure I could use it if I wanted to. Admittedly I did take that picture.
