If you had £40000 pounds spare from now until may 2015 and wanted to invest in livestock what would you put your money in for the best return?

If you have the grazing then buy long term but well bred store lambs.
40k will get you at least 800 delivered a reasonable distance at the moment.

By next March/April you could double your original capital outlay less a few costs if you have the feed to keep them.
I doubt there is anything else that will give you a better return in farming for the next 12 months.

By next March/April you could halve your original capital outlay.

I don't want everyone buying stores.:)

Another thought is go round early sheep breeding sales picking up pens of small ewe lambs/gimmers, dress and colour them then sello on at later sales also same with cheaper tups, sell at later sales when folk have found out they have an infertile or sick ram unfit to do the job
Quick turn around and a few days away :)

I like the thinking.(y) There could be a healthy uplift in sale price when the shortage of shearling rams becomes evident at Builth.;)
