can see this being the end of the wool board , its one thing to have a big reduction and only just covering shearing , but being valueless simply cant go on . packing , transport , storage only adds more cost to farmer .

If the wool board ends its the end of a UK wool market.

Don’t forget it is a cooperative, together we are stronger.

If there was no wool board the wool would be your problem not theirs with no buyers.

I probably subsidise those with poorer type wool in remote locations by supporting OUR wool board.

We have half a dozen of someone else's sheep on a grass park, somewhat surprised that the fleeces went on to the muck heap.

Does it rot? Otherwise there will be a hell of a mess when it is spread and one angry muckspreader driver
Makes good compost when mixed with fym, tremendous mulch, what we always used daggings for before we moved to shedders. Thinking of putting texel and chartex wool in muck heap this time as I suspect diesel to take two sheets to collection point will only balance out.

Wool is a quality product with many useful properties.
It is long lasting whilst being bio-degradable.
It's carbon footprint must be negligible.
It requires no inputs/ resources beyond sun, water and grass.
I appreciate that this is an extraordinary time being in the middle of a global pandemic, but if a marketing board can't market this product it is a bad show.

The wool board grade, pack and auction it on our behalf. The companies that buy it (a lot in China) are either on shut down, or seeing a massive downturn in demand themselves, as retailing is struggling and few are recarpeting houses, exhibition centres, etc.
BWMB can’t just conjure up a market out of thin air.

Farmers keep it simple.

If they don't rot it will be as much of a problem as six fleeces buried in 120 tons of pig muck and one hell of a fluffy mess on the field unless ploughed in.

It takes quite some time to rot, especially if in a big clump.
If well mixed, you'll see bits when spread but not cause any problem.

I thought I'd alluded to that.
My point is that there are thousands of potential uses for wool that might not normally be cost effective. A marketing board should be promoting it as a better alternative to 'rockwool' etc.
They've had time to come up with a strategy.
If there job is just turning up for auction, there's not much marketing going on.
