can't feed stock just straw (unfortunately).....it'd be little use in a dairy ration......even for beef/sheep you're going to need concs to supplement just to maintain

Good clean FB has been over £30/t for years. 1/5th the price of wheat is what it should be priced at although feed value it’s 1/3rd.

Yes the BS boys must be in a pickle!

Yep but that is mostly wheat straw and whilst its belly fill you will have to top up with either a blend/ cake/ barley grain/ minerals etc to give the animals enough energy to maintain weight and even then straw is only really any good for either dry sucklers and/ or growing/ finishing cattle on an intensive system ( like barley beef for example )

Just feeding straw and nothing else will only mean you are going to have serious problems down the road at calving/ no weight gain on growing cattle etc.

Most people in the SW were banking on having at least one if not two very decent cuts of grass in Sept/ Oct but with every passing day that is looking less and less likely as we haven't had anywhere near enough rain to keep grass growing like it needs to and in fact the last week grass has been going backwards at a rate of knots..

I’m hopefully baling about 200 odd haylage bales tomorrow should be nice stuff if the rain holds off. At the prices mentioned in the thread above then the lot is for sale!!!!!

Late cut of grass...when you planning on cutting it...Boxing Day...

I think if the grass is there and they can travel some dairy farms will be cutting in late Nov onwards the way things are looking at the moment,

Store lamb buyers were complaining last Sat that they are losing their winter keep from dairy farms as the farms want it to either run stock out on for as long as possible and/or take a late cut of silage as possible.
