Rent, feed, fert, vet and med, seed, stock replacements, equipment depreciation and maintenance......

Many farmers should properly consider their cost of production.

There's a reason why the EU subsidised food production (though it wasn't originally to provide supermarkets with big profits).

He was selling 600 lambs, 600 x 91 = £54600 so total sales would only just get a skilled mans wage.
Things are going to have to change if there is to be any small/medium farmers left.
Our farm used to support 2 families, with four lots of school fees, regular new cars, etc.
and 4 staff. How big would you have to be to do that now?

Id be happy with £71 for my lambs wouldn't like to think what costs are but I'd hope not that high.
Suppose if he's haveing to rent a farm and paying a lot for cost would be high

So you don't pay insurance/ water rates/ repairs on buildings/ machinery/ run a truck/ buy meds/ have any losses/ replacement ewes/ rams/ fert/ feed/ water rates/ take a wage/ drawings etc???

Your kidding yourself if you think £71 will cover all your costs and leave you with a profit margin!
