Recently article in the farmers weekly about fendt 515c been restored by its owner and he said it at time of purchase had features as standard that other tractors didn't.
612 from 1988 had an onboard air compressor for tyres/radiator, turbo clutch, air activated 4wd and PTO 👍🏻 Also a lot of them had front links. A hitch that doesn’t need rear links to go up to release the hitch.
926 from 1996 had vario, automatic drop and engage PTO etc. Air compressor, air brakes, FL, same hitch configuration where you don’t need to raise the arms to release hitch etc, 50kmh.
A lot of things way ahead of their time but not always the best etc but someone has to try it first 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sorry if I’m off topic here.

It’ll probably blow up after I say this but I absolutely love our Fendt. Only a 516 and have clocked up 1500 hrs in the 2 yrs from new but it’s a joy to use. Everything is so well thought out.
Even little things that shouldn’t cost any manufacturer much such as marked graduations on the linkage drop arms and the end of the pto shaft being machined in such a way that it lines up when you push the pto shaft of the implement against it.
Haven’t even had a lightbulb fail yet.

The comfort and apparent build quality are very impressive. It’s a loader tractor but pulls a 5f reversible with press, 18 tonne trailers etc.
The garage serviced it and commented how clean the exhaust system was, the result lots of plenty of hard engine work.

As a owner driven machine, I’d hope that it’ll hold its value well. We usually sell before 10k hours.
We had a 6430p from new before this and a Deere 6400 from new before that, both very good tractors but this is a serious step up.
They are a very good tractor, handy size and all that, can,t see mine leaving the farm, i,ve had a winker bulb go on mine and the tractor told me it was blown, took me a few days to work it out , it would bleep once when you turned right, then it would,t do it again for the rest of the day, next day same thing, bleep when turning right. Never thought it might have been a bulb gone, clever tractor.

Have you put many hours on it? What jobs does it do?

Pah, nothing fancy there

Long before then Zetors had 4wd (with mudguards!), air compressors, passenger seats, a very comprehensive toolkit......

Ok ok ok, so the passenger seat was for the mechanic to ride along and use the toolkit, but they were still very advanced 😂

Took my 724 to the dealer of another colour to pick something up last week. Chap directing me back to the machine said “drop the lift rods” I said I can’t, haven’t got any 😂 he was genuinely surprised 😁

I had continuous punctures on one of them where the tube kept bursting, drive to the tyre fitters, they put 2 railway sleepers down and I’d lift the tractor up with the double acting rear linkage 💪🏼

I’m used to modern varios both case and MF which I use in ‘TMS’ most of time. How do you drive a non TMS? Does it still have cruise control? Do you just floor throttle on road and build up stick to match? It’s only really road work I can see non TMS being problem or am I totally wrong?

Its just stick mode, foot controls throttle and hand controls speed

Like driving a case CVX1190. If what your looking at is like the old 926 favorite I used to drive you knock the stick to the right for cruise control, push forward to speed up and back to slow down but matching your foot throttle to it, 1450rpm is 54kmh 👍🏻

with no TMS the gearbox and engine don’t talk to each other so you have to use the throttle to set the revs you want, it’s the same as turning TMS off on a newer Fendt. So you can still use either joystick or pedal modes. You also don’t have some of the fancy bits like increasing the revs if you press a spool button.

Personally I would only buy a Fendt with TMS, but tbh it’s not the end of the world if it doesn’t have it. There can’t be many non TMS tractors around now.

612 we had was quite primitive with no powershift or dedicated reverse lever. Gears were hopeless on a round baler.. add in a heavy dry clutch and weak non assisted drum brakes. Not much good at any jobs except ploughing and tillage work.

And not particularly good and certainly not comfy at them either…

Fendt is always a few steps ahead of the competition
They are ahead alright in every department including running cost which can be the highest on the market, a lot of fendt owners have switched away from them in the last 5 years that I know off , actually a lot more have switched away than have stayed with them.

Ursus and Zetor had air compressors back in 1985 so that puts them in the same league.
