‘That’ Blue Bull.......

Ok, I know, can of worms, don’t poke the bear, yada, yada, yada.... but we were scanning cattle today and had one of those rare days when virtually everything scanned in calf, including a five from five embryos in recips. One of the best results was ‘that’ Blue bull had his first cow scanned in calf. She’s one of our former top Show cows and we are now looking forward to seeing if the progeny is any good.... and yes, I would agree, often your top Show cow is not your best brood....

I love to see nice stock for their purpose. Both look Top end to me. They are a credit to your obvious objectives.
We have to recognise it's always horses for courses.
There's the pedigree and pure breeders, there's the value adders for dairy and there's the commercial beefers - some intensive, some more extensive. Different markets.
Not all are interchangeable between all the tiers, indeed few are, but the trick is returning the best £ for your enterprise (by cherry picking) per £ input wether it's acres, housing space, equipment, supplementary feed, vet/med input etc. There isn't a universal answer for all circumstances and can really depend who you are selling to.
I think where GUTH et al, are wrong, is that 'the Bull' may not be the best choice to follow 50 assorted commercial (whatever that is) cows around the moor to calve outside unsupervised, BUT, he is not meant to and it is an unfair expectation and pointless comparison or criticism of what is clearly an excellent example of what he is meant to be.
