Whatsapp is a way of messaging or conducting voice calls using wifi- all for free.

You can also share links, voice mail, videos or pictures instantly. I believe you can even do 'facetime'-like conversations on whatsapp but I never have.

A useful tool.
Its Facetime/Fancy Messaging service for all those not using iphones basically
v handy app tho

We have included the ability to share TFF threads and posts to Whatsapp in the new version that's currently in testing.

I was persuaded to install the "Whats App" App on my Galaxy S9 phone last week . Can't really make head nor tail of it yet . I've never even used it , and it keeps nagging me to install another app , and run two pages . Don't see the point of that at all .

Its almost identical to most phones text messaging function so it shouldn't be to hard to get the hang of, what other app is it trying to get you to install? I'm not sure what you mean by run two pages?

Don't know what the other app is.
WhatsApp uses data (or WiFi) for calls or sending pictures so is free on WiFi or part of your data allowance if sending or calling either too or from overseas.
First used it to send pics on a Windows phone, Android users just couldn't open attachments.

I installed it so that a family member could see family snaps, which she couldn't open as an attachment to a "Contact ". Not sure what kind of phone she has but it isn't an android - might be an i phone . Whatever the reason , it has stopped that nag message and I can now send photos etc . Funny that she couldn't open them , as they come through "loud 'n' clear" on mine which is an android without whats app . .

For anyone who is office bound you can download the whats app program for PC and log into it with your phone, meaning you can message people from your PC (so long as your phone is awake and connected), I have found it quite handy.

If you download the "Opera" browser, Whatsapp is built into it. I have it running on my desktop.

Opera is the finest browser there is and I have used it for years, long before it had chrome innards. (y)

Vivaldi is a browser made by some of the folks that developed Opera originally, and so worth a look.

I quite like Komodo Ice dragon and Aviator but both seem to want me to run their own AV suite which I don't want.

Yes , I have the "Opera" browser on my desktop , and quite often use it , but I had no idea that Whats App was built in ! . I need to look into this further . Mostly I use Google "Chrome" but I'm a bit fed up with Google's nag screen about privacy , and wanting me to give them , as I see it , almost unlimited access to my computer and phone . I've now started to use Samsung's own browser , and "Duck, Duck, Go as my default search engine , and that pairing works well for me . Thanks all for the input/ answers.

Opera do a browser for mobile. Whatsapp integration in Opera is managed by the sidebar- you may well have this hidden by default. It's the same bar where other features can be enabled or disabled.

Also: even though you have Opera, because it runs on a lot of Chrome code, you are able to install extensions for Opera AND make use of Chrome-only extensions, like Norton safe search, lazarus etc.

I would highly recommend you run at least Ad block plus, ghostery and HTTPS everywhere.

Yes , I do run "adblock plus " and " Ghostery" too . how do you run HTTPS as a rule ? On my machine it comes up automatically whenever I use a reply needing security - money matters etc. I also use the full "Kasperski" suite , which gives a very good warning of dodgy sites , and phishing protection too .
