100,000 pigs to be destroyed

Fire sale prices offered for "overspec" pigs (i.e. ones that were held on farm when processors could not take their contracted quantities) and of course that works it's way in to the SFP published every week by AHDB so it's certainly win win for processors
And then the other meats take a hit?
Share the pain.

So much going on right now I am trying to get a good understanding of it all. I would imagine there's only a finite amount of private chiller space for quartered pigs . Price I've been told was 70p and SFP was 140p and even that was below cost of production .
How many chiller boxes are sitting on docks and going nowhere for a while?
There must be plenty that were originally destined for filling for China?

So we get a load of truck drivers and carcass hackers over here from Europe. Covid rears its head again and Macron shuts the EU border down for Christmas again.
Ain't gonna happen.

Statistics. 12,400 down on week yet 2,000 change on year
I get those figures are subject to revision but the big four processors will slaughter 100-120,000 pigs a week between them if they are only running at 75% capacity we should be 25,000 pigs a week down. Those extra pigs are not been slaughtered having spoken to vets, marketing groups and other farmers. The increasing average slaughter weight back this up. This suggests that weekly slaughter figures could be 20k higher than they are.The pig industry is a small world most people have a good idea what is happening in there local area, where are these pigs extra pigs coming from? Have the big integrators ramped up there production by such a large number and are now squeezing there independent suppliers?

4085 is Pilgrim / Tulip as Ashton.

I'd imagine it's British pork but Costco see some marketing value in calling it USA. Sort of like Kentucky Fried chicken that's never been further afield than Brackley, maybe?

I was thinking that, like USA pork is a certain cut/Style or something? But then it says USA country of origin?!

I heard yesterday of one Processing plant who had advertised the jobs for butchers, promised accommodation and an above average rate of pay. NO applicants

Yes

xxxxxxxxx nearly doubled their sow herd last year, going from 13,000 to 22,000.

Following on from our post the other day Costco
Struggling to see how this pork is “born in Uk”, “reared in Uk”, “slaughtered in Uk”, but country of origin is USA
🤔

Consumers deserve better than to be duped by dodgy labelling. Especially if they wish to support British Farmers and the high welfare standards they uphold.

The labelling is less conflicting in Stevenage. It's quite obviously yankee pork there.
