12 ton grain trailer

I haven’t been keeping up to date with the value of 2nd hand 10 ton trailers clearly. Always nice if dealers you’ve known for years don’t use you’re ignorance to take the pee though, ho hum!

A quick look in any magazine would have shown you what they’re worth now.
Bargain at £5k!

And what size(dimensions) would you class a 12 ton grain trailer seems they can vary a bit .On another post there is a 20/30 rolland I use one of these its about 5.80 long with 1.5 sides width doesnt vary much with silage sides can carry anywhere between 8 and 14t on silage what will this carry grain wise?

Had a quote for a Richard western back in the spring, 11 ton I think the model was, price was around £24k. They must be pricing themselves out the market. I really liked the trailer and will probably look cheap in 10 years time.

Not sure who makes them but I thought these didn’t look silly money but seem to have gone up a bit recently.

That was dear, I paid less than that for 18t full spec 18t silage trailers in the autumn.

Ive been quoted 18k for brand new 12 ton, commercial axles, air+oil load sensing, front window, roll over sheet and hydraulic door with grain chute, sprung drawbar etc. doesnt seem too bad compared to others

Anyway this thread reminded me to ring said machinery salesman and ‘discuss’ the deal.

He assures me that he took all the steelwork that supports the roll sheet off the trailer, drilled out and rethreaded the rusted bolts, straightened it, got hold of the right colour paints and resprayed the bad bits on it etc and generally spent a couple of £k tidying up the defects.

From the photo above I can see that the drawbar has been resprayed, can’t really see the roll hoops etc. The trailer was very tidy when we sold it but the tinwork supports for the roll sheet had been caught a few times over the years.

But there we are, clearly 2nd hand machinery is a better game to be in than food production!

What make of trailer is that? I got a Proforge 12 tonne with sprung drawbar, hydraulic rear door, roll over sheet and commercial axles for £16,300 3 months ago. The salesman told me to buy it because the price was going up which it has done by £4000. I haven't used it much but it seems pretty solid and well made. It does sit a bit high though so I won't be going on many slopes with it. I don't think it is as well made as a Bailey but it is better than a Marshall. I haven't seen any second hand to see how much they drop in value.

We wanted one last year and they seemed good value at around £ 12 k but they had no stock so suggested a secondhand AS for about £9500 which as it was about 15 years old seemed a bit steep. I don’t need new but £12000 did seem a bargain.

Just to avoid any confusion, we didn’t give Daniel £5000 for his trailer, we bought it from Cheffins for £9500 plus commission & transport so owes us around 10k. It’s a lovely original example, we would take £11500 for anyone who is interested which is around 7/8K cheaper than a new one today. Thanks Michael - Richardson Machinery Sales Ltd.
