12 V air horn.

Need to put a new horn on a vehicle, and need one with a tad more oomph than standard.
The vehicle has no air supply, but I’ve seen some truck like air horns with their own compressor, and they don't seem too expensive either.
Anybody got or fitted one ?
Any good, or get what you pay for ?

Had a pair of Halfords air horns fitted in my old Rangie just wired across the electric horns. Driving in town a quick toot on the horn, say if someone stepped off the kerb would only bring in the feeble sparrow's f*rt of the LR horn. Keeping your finger on the horn for a second longer on a country road would give a good blast from the air horns. The Chinese compressors needed replacing every couple of years as they filled up with muck and seized if not used regularly. Musical air horns have been banned for years, I don't know what the situation is now regarding aftermarket single/duo tone airhorns though.

Father of a friend at school had a MK2 Jag (Inspector Morse style) and used to compete in the Classic Monte Carlo Rally. He showed me the engine bay once with a set of air horns which ran the length of the bonnet......I always wanted to press that horn button.

You need to be careful with power requirements. The conventional horn wiring will only take a couple of amps. A compressor will need a lot more than that so run a fresh feed of thicker wire and a relay from the old horn circuit.

deffo need to fit a relay, as already said pump draws a fair bit.

they do take up a fair bit of room and try and put pump somewhere where it wont get covered in muck.

also the Dukes of Hazard ones fit quite nicely in the space in a LR discovery wing **allegedly**
