life may not be but the law certainly is

I think the law is right - the idea of a kid under 13 in a modern tractor is frankly stupidity and an accident waiting to happen
my son used to do rolling at 11 but he is now 17 and i wont let him agitate slurry so certin jobs are ok but yes i agree with you but over here its legal to put a 16 year old with no experience on a 50 k tractor and a 20 ton trailer behind it which i think is dangerous

I would say that is an understatement|! :cautious:

Having seen some of the silage gangs over there, young kids with low driving skill levels and using the machinery to bully other users, was to me a shock.

yes true and they show no regard for other road users there should be training and a test for any young lad pulling more than ten tons in a fast tractor but on the other side any tractor crash or mishaps that are highlighted are mostly in england but

I was informed on by someone whilst driving a tractor on the road at age 10 the policeman visited the house told me I was to young to be prosecuted but don't do it again both my kids have been driving various vehicles here since age 10 or so however when I think seriously about it I am not really sure it was really a good idea. When I was a kid being on a tractor got you out of the hard work of balestacking, potato picking or mucking out, for my kids it was really me pushing them into something I wanted them to do it worked with my son not my daughter. I was driving a Ford 6600 with no power steering that I couldn't work the brake and clutch at the same time my kids have been on much easier machines but if I had the time again I think I would wait until they were more grown up. Last spring in England my 80 year old father did some rolling with a new Class tractor we had just bought and honestly that was more frightening than anything I'd seen with the kids even though he's been on tractors his whole life.

I do not disagree Clive, I merely wonder about the things we still considered normal these days that future generations will either frown upon or loose out on... A legally enforced 35hour maximum working week? End to meat production? End to private transport vehicles? End to single use plastic? End to all use of artificial fertilisers and ag chemicals? Compulsory tree planting? End to inheritance tax relief? End to shotgun and firearms ownership and all forms of hunting? Introduction of carbon taxation on just about everything? Global conflict? A lot has changed in the last 40 years, much will change over the next 40 years.
Most of that I would predict.
