You have never seen a digger with Murphy written on it?
Nor any other of the many Irish names?
Not that I've noticed. All the ones I see round here tend to be well established local companies, but then wages are less down here so probably different upcountry

Pay £35 an hour for an excavator and driver, and you get stuff shifted about

Pay £40 an hour for the same digger, but with someone who knows the job, and you save hours making the job hard

15t dump trailer daily rate will be £80

150hp tractor and driver will be £30/hour

Bang the two together and it has to be £40/hour

Even if the tractor is near a teenager, and the trailer is nearly too old for young farmers 😉

I know this might not help but it gives you an idea around here a 360 driver is getting £35 per hour driver on HS2.
The machine owner is on a rate whether the machine is going or not but it must be available if on site and they or are on min 10 hour days.
some days the driver sits in the machine for the 10 hours and does not move but they get paid the 10 hours

And that's why any of these big infrastructure jobs cost billions.

My neighbour isa garden contractor,he goes out and charges £ 20.00 per hour with a £200.00 lawnmower. Why are excavators etc doing serious work for so little (or zero)reward?

It was just after the Brighton hotel bomb, that’s why.
So because of the actions of a few you mistrust a whole country of people? So I can take it that because of Jimmy Saville's actions everyone in England is a practising Paedophile and Necrophiliac ?
I think your logic is slightly skewed.
P.S. Englishmen and women, I mean you no disrespect I was only using it as an example.👍

‘savile’ was an individual, the IRA is not an individualist organisation. I have met plenty of Irish to know the distrust is alive and well, save your preaching for another individual.

No They were drones.

I don’t understand how you can accuse Irish of ill sentiment towards the English whilst completely ignoring your own ill tolerance towards them because some of their country men were murdering b@stards. They murdered themselves and each other too.

The Irish have been doing more than building English motorways and housing estates for 6 or 7 decades what else do you think they were leaving behind them in Scotland and Northern England and vice versa for thousands of years?

My man has a 15 ton and is £36 per hour. He is 40 and been digging 20 years and is fit as a fiddle. Flat out as much as he can shift, 10-12 hour days and shifted tidily and neater than anyone else in several parishes.

I put a tractor and dumper in along with him at £35 but I’m not near as skilled as he is.
