I have a chance to take over 150 acres of good medium heavy land , I have no equipment at all , and dont expect to make a fortune. As I have been out of farming a while , I would run it using contractors, can anyone five me a good idea of what , I can exect to pay for the major cereal operations, including ploughing , drilling , spraying , fert spreading, combining, or possibly whole cropping stubble to stubble. Also figure for hedge triming .
Please feel free to PM me

its going to vary a lot on location - I would ask the 3 or 4 farmers that will have land close to it to quote you a S2S price
thats the last thing I would do cos as sure as hell one if not all of them will be round to the land owner offering to do it for him. Why not get a copy of nix or better still just download the costs from the naac,( national association ofag contractors and lop off 15-20 % then if its still a goer sign up first

I wouldn't be telling anyone where this land was exactly until was ready to take discussions further

good luck getting 20% of NAAC rates - wouldn't happen around here

problem would be they would most likely be aware of anything that was coming or likely to come up it just the way the world works, here the naac list is a guide built on hope .ho ho

£150 / acre is a good rough guide to stubble to stubble prices

S2S would be circa £120-140/acre for a wheat/barley/osr rotation for all arable operations including harvesting, carting to a central point on the farm & loading into a lorry for somewhere like Camgrain. That assumes a mix of ploughing & deep non inversion tillage. Hedgecutting extra for around £5/acre depending on field size etc. Add grain store costs for drying, monitoring. Farmer does the buying & selling. Agronomy and management is extra.

I would use NAAC figures for budgeting. But you would be heavily dependent on this contractor so it would potentially be worth your while to pay them a profit share or something? Cheapest won't necessarily be best. TBH if you are paying a decent rent I can't see that you will make much money but that's your business and perhaps you are a better farmer than me. I would be tempted to buy a spreader, sprayer, set of rolls and a tractor and loader and do those type of jobs myself, depending on how mechanical you are this could be done very cheaply. Maybe a hedgecutter and use contractors for harvesting and heavy work..
