I see you are over 65. Why don't you just step aside and let some young person get a start.
Offer to mentor them , if they need it, for a while.
why should the over 65s be cast aside im 65 and would happily look at( not just for vanity twould have to be workable) taking on 150 acres or the 400 acres 40miles away mentioned in another thread, its taken me a lifetime of hard work and sleepless nights to get to a position where I could but im well aware circumstances alter cases

and that's very commendable, but now its maybe time to do something different in the last third of your life

and leave a younger person the opportunity you maybe had when you were starting out

I have a chance to take over 150 acres of good medium heavy land , I have no equipment at all , and dont expect to make a fortune. As I have been out of farming a while , I would run it using contractors, can anyone five me a good idea of what , I can exect to pay for the major cereal operations, including ploughing , drilling , spraying , fert spreading, combining, or possibly whole cropping stubble to stubble. Also figure for hedge triming .
Please feel free to PM me
Stubble to stubble easier to manage but less fun/involving than getting contractors in, tbh there will be local farmers happy to do each operation as required, perhaps someone in to Claydon drill, a spray contractor in to spray and another neighbour to combine.

as I said circumstances alter cases , and without wishing to be a prat to your well intentioned comment being a homeless jobless orphan at the age of 17 was maybe not the the opportunity that you had in mind to be starting out with, but its been fun and I aint finished yet, having fun that is along with farming, cheers,

S2S would be circa £120-140/acre for a wheat/barley/osr rotation for all arable operations including harvesting, carting to a central point on the farm & loading into a lorry for somewhere like Camgrain. That assumes a mix of ploughing & deep non inversion tillage. Hedgecutting extra for around £5/acre depending on field size etc. Add grain store costs for drying, monitoring. Farmer does the buying & selling. Agronomy and management is extra.

Too low. In a s2s you would need to be at least £150 to carry the job out properly and at least help pay for replacement machinery, labour and fuel cost.

If it is applicable, in these times the landlord should keep that aside from the rent (most will anyway).

Gone are the days where anybody can rely on that to top up the rent.

When you say 'take over' what does that mean? Given it, bought it, rent it?
