1594 vr ih 956 classic tractor

The first thing that I would expect with both of these tractors is to be dynoed to confirm their horsepower at the PTO is to manufactures specifications.(y)If one of them has been tweeked for 20hp more, that underminds the whole reason for the comparision test between both tractors.

:D

here we go again.....

as i said on the test day, 95hp wasnt enough for what i wanted it to do, so i opened it out. The bloke with the 956 was saying about how "its an ex demo model, so chances are it will be over-powered rather than under"

turned out it was under powered

not my fault is it?

and besides that, the original deal with regards to the test was

would my 1594 outperform an IH 956, nothing was said about it being standard!

That's a bit like comparing a 850 mini with a 1275GT not really a fair test

we knew it wasnt going to be a fair test as soon as the 956 went on the dyno, but having got all the nessacary people there and having hired the dyno for the morning, decided to carry on. Its more an entertainment article than a factual one i suppose

Think what really, really fecks me off though, if it had been the 956 pushing out more hp than the 1594, and had comprehensively ran rings round it all day, the general consensus would be "it was a good fair test, as the 1594 is a sh!t tractor anyway"

As it happened it was the other way round.

Its nice when the under-dog wins though ;)

I would have put my money on the 1594 the hydrashift gearbox would have been a great advantage don't think the test should have gone ahead I am a db fan having owend 780 880 885 990 1212 1490 in my opinion the test means nothing now

it just served to quieten down a select few IH fans who were adamant that the 956 was better, that was my aim at the end of the day :D

i knew way before the test what was going to happen, there no way on this earth a 956 would push a 3m flexicoil/2 rows of spring tines, and drag a 3m piggyback drill combination behind it, especially on our land.

Finding 2 completely untouched, original down to the last nut and bolt tractors, both what are now 25 years old, would be an impossible task anyway

The hp advantage i had was balanced out by the fact im on bigger wheels, 18/38s as oppesed to the IH's 16/38s. So any hp advantage would be balanced out by loss of torque through the rear wheels surely?

DB's always overpowered their tractors compared to the stated HP of the model,
But 20 HP that is a lot

hydrashift even more so, as they lost a bit more through the box than the synchros, they lose about 3hp per gear, i dynoed mine in 1st, if id have dynoed her in 4th it would have been a lot lower

It may appear a lot but the hydra shift was very efficient against other power shifts of the time
My case 2670 lost 70hp through the gearbox!

ouch. DB gearboxes were always very efficient transmitters of power, even if they were noisy as hell. Same with the engines, they were always very good on diesel, this was better than the IH even though it was 20hp more!

cant imagine why..

slight disagreement with the hierarchy, they sold me some shite decals and i named and shamed them, thats about the top and bottom of it

threatened to take me to court for it, told them to get stuffed. You sell decals for a tractor marketed "as original" withing a year all the colouring had washed off them. A 3 year old could have made a better job with a permenant marker.

your a bit wrong there if a 1055 used to manage a 4m think a 956 would manage a 3m and it wasn't on fen land, being looking for picks but carn't find them

i cant see it, i need all the hp its got to work that 3m combi if its wet, if the 956 is 20 less it stands no chance at all, especially on those tiny wheels, the weight alone would push it through the floor
