16 years old on the road

What's acceptable and what's not for a 16 year old with a tractor test. I know of the 2.45 width restrictions and the close coupled wheel rule. Are there any weight restrictions other than the standard ag trailer laws?
Asking for a friend, wish I was 16 again..........

Cheers

Trailers must be close coupled axles ie no Attics or big trailers... 0.845m between axle centres that is say an Ifor Williams not a 16t Stewart.

This might help, oldest has his test next week after 3 cancellations... Been a right ball ache as a public road goes through the yard.

But this gives weight limits.
The farmers weekly police man says " full fat 31 ton at 17 with car driving licence"
The dvla website gives no help. Not sure how they expect folk to stick to the rules if they wont tell people what the rules are.

Talking to a friend the other day he was telling me round him it’s common practice for 16 year olds who have just passed a tractor test to be let loose on the roads with a mule or gator type vehicle to get around in.

we had the same problem as you have and in the end bought a new single axle bale trailer to keep my nephew within the law / I told him once he had passed his full test we would upgrade our other single axle trailer for a twin axle but I think by the time he passes he will work out we cannot get about with a big long trailer any way :scratchhead:

You are obviously aware a 16 year old cannot drive on the road at all, until he has passed his test, once 17 he can drive anything on L plates, which is a little bizarre

Was told that the rules have changed and if the tractor has a training seat that has a seat belt then at 16 with a qualified person and L plates a 16yr old can drive a tractor on the road.

Absolutely wrong! a 16 year old can only travel to and from a test, full stop, unless they have passedsaid test and technically only then drive on, when they have received their full Cat F licence.

Here there are much less regulations. No drivning licens and no age limits as long it is the farmers kids and they can drive from farm to fields and back . No weigh regulations up to 24 m long rig and up to 70 metric ton.
This is in Sweden, and the only liberal rules here🤔

Yes your right, i belive the 16yr old who told me may have over thought the training seat a bit, having looked it up I think it means you may not drive unaccompanied to the test if the tractor has a seat fitted, Is that your thoughts too?

No this is a myth. There is no provision at all for Carrying an accompanying licence holder, in the regulations
