Hereford and Angus steers advertised on internet sales website at £465 each for 160 kgs reared calves/weanlings.
Could someone run me through the likely profit margin in these at any stage.
Just interested.
@gone up the hill maybe?

About the right price for them as that is what they are making in the calve pens currently.

I would say the most profit will be in the Angus steers if they are named sires as if you farm them right then going on the current trade they will be worth £1000/1100 head in the store ring at 12/15 months old.

But yep its too much for the Herefords ( needs to be £385/ head at that age ) but angus steer trade if named sires has totally lost the plot in both the stirk/ store rings ( esp the latter ) not sure why as they are making more of a bonus now when the premium has been cut 50% than before this.

£1000 at 12 months for an Angus:scratchhead:

Thanks, b
Buy some Blue calves now. Rear them then sell at end of summer. Job done.
In fact, if you make a good job of them, I will but them off you! ;)
Thanks, but my calf rearing days are over. I'd rather pay a bit more for reared, but not silly money.
I could graze 40 dairy heifers, but at 50p a day, which he's offering It doesn't seem much to me.
