167: Brexit – prepare for the worst and hope for the best

Written by AHDB

Brexit and the transition arrangements are a huge challenge for the British Government.

In this episode, John Bates, AHDB Senior Media & PR Manager, speaks to Tania Gesto-Casas, an AHDB policy manager based in Brussels, and Sarah Baker, AHDB Strategic Insight Manager.

In light of the negotiations advancing, we have reviewed the previous scenarios prepared for farm business managers and updated analysis of how a ‘no-deal’ Brexit will impact UK farmers, reflecting the recently-announced UK Global Tariffs (UKGT). This is available on our Brexit web page: ahdb.org.uk/brexit

For levy payers, the outcomes of discussions with the top players, including on the European Commission’s side, chief negotiator, Michel Barnier and Britain’s Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, are critical, as these will form the foundations of trading relationships for markets not only in Europe, but perhaps elsewhere in the world.
