Hi guys.

I currently have a Migatronic 500MX which is fine for sheet metal work, but looking to move up to a 180amp machine.
I have 30amp blue socket so wondered what machine you guys are using.
Currently looking at a PICMIG 180 Synergic but wonder if there are better/more cost effective models ou there

Welders seem to have come on a lot in the last 10 years. I bought a Sealey mightymig 190, which is a heavy old transformer machine. But there is very little to go wrong with it and on balance I don’t think I would go for a modern inverter mig, despite it undoubtedly putting down a nicer weld.

whats your budget? highly recommend these machines, nicest machines ive ever used.
ran side by side with a migatronic galaxy and the tec arc was nicer to weld with
they have loads of dealers too

Made and if required fixed in the UK too.

Tec arc also make the same machines under the Oxford and portamig brands.

they are made in the same factory but are slightly different machines. generally the oxfords have a slightly lower duty cycle and have the horizontal wire spool instead of vertical, and are slightly more expensive, perhaps because its the more recognized brand. tec arc is my choice of the 2 but oxford are very good machines also.

Is that the same with the plasma cutters too?
yes, i think there maybe one imported inverter model at the very bottom of each brand's range but 95% of their ranges are UK built transformer machines. it is pretty obvious from the appearance which are the imported ones.

for plasmas i would go oxford as they have the thermal heating heating function which is very impressive, the tec arcs dont have it

Yeah thats right but I believe you can get a mix and match with which ever features you want as they are made to order
