It’s all gone crazy. I was given 2 prices for a new tractor. Same dealer, same model, same spec the first price was for one that was already on order as stock, ordered about 3 months ago and the second would be built to order and is 20k more expensive!!!!!

Did l see that wrong, but l saw that a mchale fusion was 20000 dearer that it used to be, can't find the article, think it was over in Ireland.
At the risk of sounding like a certain Irish valtra/forage wagon/pottinger, errr, "enthusiast"......

.....I was told by the McHale salesman that they expected their 55 and 5600 balers would be at least 10 to 15% more next year, and didn't sound happy or optimistic about the prospect!

Scary times ahead, especially if you haven't got your machines, ditches, fences, and sheds up to scratch, whatever sector of agriculture you're in

Even 2nd hand tractor prices are up at least 10k I totally agree about your views on scary times being ahead.

Lots of farm equipment, implements, etc. here (USA) have doubled in price since June. The prices for unsold 2019,2020 and now 2021 equipment is priced at double what it would have cost back in June.

New equipment for stuff made in the USA and elsewhere are thought to be arriving about a year from now.

Rust and Sun faded paint cost a substantial premium these days.

I got a new pick up truck in May. It now has 8 thousand miles on it. It is worth 4k more today than what I paid for it new. My only advice is to wait it out, unless you have to make a capital investment or need to replace essential tools. You got to do what you got to do.

A neighbour asked for a price to change a Claas 650 for a new one and it was £40,000 MORE than he was expecting it to be! Might have been a higher spec and I don't know the figures but the old one is still there

I really do not know about McHale Fushions, but it would not surprise me if that was the production cost of the parts, assembles, rubber, steel, polyethylene and finishing fluids was €25 k. But then you need to paint it, market it, warranty it and service it for at least 10 years. That probably nearly doubles the unit cost.

McHale then gets the most of its unit profit from the sale to the distributor.

Then you add shipping to the distributor and the distributors take. It would probably go through a couple of other folks systems, before it reaches the end customer.

With everyone in the supply chain raising the cost of its services/goods by x amount, it is elementary math to get to the asking price of that unit while being astonished at the same time. Most dealers are getting full retail plus 10 - 15% because they can.

I too raised my prices by 10% because my buyers asked me to do so. That 10% is not going to make much of difference, but every little bit helps.

I can't figure out why my buyers asked me to raise my price. But, I will do as they wish.

I was going to change mine this year, but knowing the price increase and no machine improvements and what the f**k are we paying for, be cheaper to buy a 2nd hand one for spares or run 2. This greed has to stop, is there anyone on here that are willing to pay 40, 45, or even 50k for just a round baler. Not had a new fusion price yet but won,t make good reading, how the hell are we suppose to turn a profit, the money is just not in the job anymore.

Is it not a case of the small scale and older farmers and contractors will fall by the wayside and the larger scale and younger farmers/contractors will use the economies of scale theory to continue expanding? Kinda like how it is in the USA? Or am I wrong?

What do you do?

We had a brand new tractor this year to help the business keep up, the price was frightening, but going 2nd hand is just not an option for us any more. Not to mention the cost of 2nd hand now is absurd.

We've had to order a new mower, price of that went up a fair chunk in the short time we were looking, old one is 10yr old and worn out, buying a 2nd hand one to use as 'spares' is also not an option, when you want to mow, you want to mow and keep mowing, the potential downtime and frustration alone is never worth it.

I honestly am not sure where the job is going, we are going to have to review our charges, we aren't going to make any more money, but we can't keep stomaching these ever increasing costs, current price of diesel alone is a monster amount over 12 months. Gas for the house is up 9ppl. Council tax keeps going up, not sure where all this extra money is supposed to keep coming from.

Farming does however seem to have a knack of just 'keeping going' but some cracks are appearing to show, some suddenly retiring, selling cows, leaving places to go wild, letting out, etc....
