2012 navara good buy or risky?

I had an 07 navara from new and it was a bloody good truck right up until July last year when the chassis snapped. I can't grumble as it didn't owe me anything - from memory the only expensive repairs were 2 clutches, a fuelling issue and the steering wheel squib. It had a hard life regularly towing and carrying above and beyond its designed limit.

However if you go onto the Navara snapped chassis group on facebook there are plenty of younger trucks that rarely go off road and have never towed that are having chassis problems so I would be very wary of buying any D40.

Run a 14 reg D40 here and it was back to get the chassis inspected and painted. We have 3 of them between myself , brother and father. There ones are the older models but they said the gave engine problems we never had any bother with the navara at all. My brother drives like he stole it .

It seems that those who have had them for any length of time like them, mostly.

Looking for new truck (well, new to me) found 2012 navara with sub 30k miles, looks like it’s spent it’s life in town.

What’s experience of these trucks?

its quite far away and not been to look at it yet

thanks
I'm sure a man of your capabilities could modify it!

There will be some chap on YouTube will have put something up on how to do it!

Just do the opposite of what everyone else says. Normally a good tactic.

Had an 06 Manual and a 59 auto and both did mega mileage with minimal cost, great robust trucks and both were Aventuras with all the extras. Had an Amarok after them and it wasn't a patch on them as a workhorse but was comfortable on a journey, gone back to Nissan now and this new Navara isn't as good as the old ones.

Company I work for had 2x 56 reg D40 new, one did 200k + with no problems. The other did 250k + before a hole was found in the chassis, however Nissan compensated the very well for it, no other problems during its life.

Now have 2x 65 reg new, one on 87k and the other 100k+, no problems. 65 reg just had chassis inspected and painted. Also have a 61 reg with approx 80k, no problems.

I would have no hesitation buying a used D40, providing the chassis is ok.

What is the cut off for Nissan compensating the chassis problems?

There was a nember on here that rebuilt the back of his Navara, laser cut new plates etc, was it @Deutzdx3?

Dad has a D22 as runabout that we welded a lot of steel into and onto the chassis 3 or 4 yrs ago. For the right money they’re worth doing a bit of repair to. An offcut sheet of 3 and 4mm plate goes a long way.

Seen an 11 plate navara online that looks good value. Is there a cutoff where nissan wont stand by it anymore if it did have chassis problems? Age, number of owners....?
Probably. Check whether it has a reasonably rust free chassis. You never know, it might have been repaired already at Nissan's expense. Or it may be a complete dog. Only you can tell. I wouldn't bet on Nissan helping if it turns out to be. dog and you have only just bought the dog.

It was 12 years. I did hear a rumour they were going to stop the goodwill campaign but don't know if/when that has happened.

3 options that are/were available after Nissan inspect chassis with tub off (some dealerships better than others)

- Treat and paint chassis to prolong life
- Send to Spain for them to put exoskeleton on chassis
- Bought back by Nissan

Was going to phone dealer to see what the story is but they are closed

The official Nissan chassis inspection campaign was supposed to end on the 20th of March. Whether they got all through that were booked in before lock down in don't know.
I do know that all pickups that Nissan could trace Nissan contacted the keeper to arrange inspection. But it is surprising how many grey imports and ones that they didn't have details for could have slipped through the net. With these pickups isn't the was upto the owner to contact Nissan to get them on the system and get them checked.
The only way to find out if one your interested in has had its inspection is through a Nissan dealer
