2012 navara good buy or risky?

What happens with last auto?
Ml 350 rob , torque converter clutch ,,nice motor , but too high running costs , ran it for a bit as it juddered ,then a glow plug went ,and had caliper sticking , ,bought it from private lady accountant ,it had full merc history for every thing ,it seemed ok at time immaculate ,and under 100 k milage , only lemon we had ,so it went without piling a laod of money into it ,

Id really want a look at it first and thats not easy these days.
Seems to be people who have had a navara say buy and people who havent say keep clear of them.

my uncle runs a 2010 model, done something like 160,000. Gets no mercy and once went about 60,000 between services........ It’s still going, front diff went but he doesn’t go off-road so just took driveshaft off. It didn’t get a chassis inspection as he didn’t think it was worth it. Be run till it dies.

having said all that, when I was looking for 2nd hand truck I got too nervous about Navara chassis and bought a hilux instead.

There was a nember on here that rebuilt the back of his Navara, laser cut new plates etc, was it @Deutzdx3?

Dad has a D22 as runabout that we welded a lot of steel into and onto the chassis 3 or 4 yrs ago. For the right money they’re worth doing a bit of repair to. An offcut sheet of 3 and 4mm plate goes a long way.

That is me! ? all done bar painting the rest of the truck, other things took priority, she will be back on the road in May. Easy enough repair, now stronger than before with added support down the side on the week point and on the underside like the np series. Also, no silly holes at random points.

Anyone know anything about the 4wd on the navaras?
Mine has an intermittent fault where it doesnt work. When i switch to 4wd the little 4wd symbol on the digital screen flashes then dissappears and the orange 4WD light comes on.
Have googled it and it says check the 3 switches on transfer box. Checked them and the seem to work fine.
Anyone know what to try next?

It could be the switch at fault in the cab, the wiring, relay, or more likely the connector at the transfer box end, should be easy enough to check at the transfer box end. Then there is the electric motor that shifts ratios. These can fail. Any of these could cause an intermittent fault.

Looking for new truck (well, new to me) found 2012 navara with sub 30k miles, looks like it’s spent it’s life in town.

What’s experience of these trucks?

its quite far away and not been to look at it yet

thanks

Had a 2011 brand new in 2011 and ran it for 4 years of hard work. Mostly overloaded in the pickup bed and other than a front spring which was done on warranty it never missed a beat. It was a manual though not auto as I have a friend with a 12 plate auto thats been nothing but trouble in the gearbox area.
