A disaster , it's not fit to do anything here , feel sorry for anyone with cereals still to cut.

I'm not sure I would call it a disaster here but its certainly hard work !!

Reading through threads it does look like a bit of a disaster for some though

I can't seem to fill up the bale heap this year. The dry weather made us short early on, then the wet weather has stopped me from finishing the baling after the grass got going. Every time it dries out enough to travel, we get another wet day which takes it back to mud again.
I still have 30 acres (10 of 1st and 20 of 2nd cut) which I would be glad of, but it is getting a bit late for it to dry up now.

I've held off mowing one block until yesterday as it had dried out enough to travel, mowed it as forecast was dry for a few days and got 10mm last night. Almost got stuck walking across it this morning

As for cereal ground I've walked away from that for a week.

That's farming for you............. if you don't like a challenge then we wouldn't be in the job !!

But is it really a disaster !?! The farmers in the path of the hurricane would probably love to swap places and so would the family in the car driving up the M5 at the weekend.

Farming is a challenge, but rarely a disaster.

Very true, sometimes its hard to keep things in perspective but very easy to let things get on top of you, would be easier to deal with bad weather if the medium term forecast was more reliable than asking the cat for a guess

I dont think it's a disaster, it's just been different, it's been hard, compounded by very inaccurate weather forecasts. High pressure never seems to stay for any length of time. But I hope we get a nice Indian Summer. Have 300 acres of WW to go in and not panicking yet, there's always the fert spinner!

its not a disaster here its just b----y hard work long hours and a battle with the weather and im not having a particularly succesful ratio of good to bad decisions on a day to day basis, not helped by the poor weather forecasts so have now stopped watching them and am back to relying on wether my shoulder from an old injury aches which means rain or not and im glad to report i feel no pain so things are going to improve

That's right ,2012 I buggered off to spain mid july knowing full well the weather was shite and little chance of improving , this year we've had more false dawns than a false thing.

it is right we keep things in perspective pertaining to the world or even the farm boundary but this is after all a farming forum ,so as most folks on here derive their livlihood from farming its only natural that our moans and groans are pretty much site /home specific but they say a problem shared is a problem halved also there is always someone worse than yourself and ive found the ff is a godsend in making me realise that i only have minor irritations in the whole scheme of things but its unlikely to stop the occassional whinge on my part if only to make someone else feel better
