Not that I have harvested a root yet. Mine is bad with cercospora and brown rust. Will it affect the roots at all as regards storability? Or will it just reduce yield?
Had an advisory to spray another fungicide but would probably lose the sprayer with row crops on and knock a fair bit of beet about so I am not bothering.
Mine only had the one fungicide this year and dont look any worse that any others, some of which I know would have had the kitchen sink treatment.

I'm still a month away from my first lift so I'd like to see then with a better canopy but they'll still bulk up a lot I'm sure.

Does anyone do there own test digs to give an idea of yield???? If so what's the formula you use. Do you just dig up a square meter and weigh it or do you weigh so many beet along a row and work it out from there.

i do still know my arable stuff....i get days when i consider going back.......then i read about RT on here and decide agin it :).....i still don't know if i can make feckin sheep pay though:banghead::D
Why not do a bit of both that way you haven't got all your eggs in one basket. There should be a quid or to to be earned somewhere along the line.

Hows lifting going with everyone????
I heard yesterday that bury is still free loading. Yields locally seem to be between 25-29tons acre and only 17s for sugar.

I'm in no hurry to lift any yet despite wanting to put wheat in. I'm hoping they're going to make up a bit after being burned to a crisp for 2 months.

On a side note is anyone seeing bad violet rot ?? I've got some big patches, the worst I've seen for a long while.

Also back in the spring there was a bit of talk about multiple crowns, every beet I've pulled up with one is nothing more than the size of a good parsnip and theres a lot of them.[emoji22]

Not lifted any beet a yet and won't until just before Xmas.
Sugars should be peaking now in my experience so 17 s are a concern as I average 1% lower than the factory.

I was going to start today but it just won't stop raining. I have never been so ready. It soon won't even travel. Time yet though. Looks a good average crop in the ground. Recovered well from the June swilling. Yellowing a bit now but coping.

From the factory report, I see that during the past 24 hrs all 4 factories are averaging in the 16.6's% sugars and 5.6% to 8.4% dirt.
Therefore loads currently will be adjusting downwards, so it needs to yield a heavy dirty weight.
Personally not started yet. Could do with starting but even though our land is classed as light, it has gone bottomless in places so needs a bit of dry weather.
Locally some good yields though but also some very brown / yellow looking crops.

Bury is going to letter call next week I think. I have violet rots on land that's not had beet in decades. Not had final results of first lift but roughly 17.1% sugar and just over a lorry load an acre. They would be our worst beet.

Lifted 24 tons today testing the Cyclone Mk3. One or two teething problems (cyclone slipped down and snagged on the bottom trace, but managed to jack it back up again in the field and this time tightened the clamp properly). Reasonably clean sample considering how wet the soil is. Travelling reasonably well. Direct drilled crop so it's firmer than ploughed land.

How's it yielded DrW? How did you establish it? I'm contemplating strip tilling a bit next year, not worked out quite how yet!
Lifted half of mine last couple of days, travelled better than expected tbh. All ploughed and drilled with wheat tight behind. Tipping down with rain now.
