I wonder if other countries buy the seed first and British sugar buy the left overs cheaper to sell to us growers which is why they run out of the better varieties??
European growers order their seed in January to drill in March / April.
That way they evaluate the previous seasons varieties and order accordingly.
We are ordering next years crop based results from the year before previous season!

Had a call yesterday saying 2 varieties that I wanted are sold out.

I don’t remember seed being sold out before last year? What’s changed?
Had same call.
Problem is that a lot of varieties listed have a flaw such as high bolter rating, low rust resistance or less than average adjusted yield. This then makes them not very appealing in the first instance on a crop which has to perform well to make a margin.

Who sells the seed on the continent??? Would it be possible to give two fingers to bs and source it from say holland. Is the seed business a closed shop like here or is it freely available.

I posted my seed order back by return (vixen) but had the call while up to my nuts in slurry in a drain that it was sold out and put in the spot to pick another so went back to Haydyn.

Is it me or do they always take the lowest sugar % load to put in the non-Sampled load?

2nd load went in was 16.11, they used that reading for the load before and the load after. The next 3 loads were all sampled 16.56,16.42,16.52.

As I’ve said on here before there’s quite a complicated procedure for how that works in the growers guide. It’s fair but doesn’t feel like it. The other year I went through a lot of mine checking re the protocol and they were all correct

I agree with your thoughts on it all.
Last year we lifted one field which was high 17's / low 18% sugars until last load which emptied the pad and that was the poorest sugar (high 16's).
Our next lift was a month later out of a new field and the first 2 loads sent were back dated to the load sent a month earlier. All the rest of the field was low 18%. Complained and was told that we should have informed them about a change of field. However nfu beet in take representative which we were told you had to let know, knew nothing about ruling.?
Put an appeal in for the 2 loads then challenged it and eventually BS reluctantly averaged them out.
Very rarely do they add any to a high sugar and low dirt sample.
