Will be interesting to see how the chap gets on near here who drilled all his in February.......
Saw a big bit going in first few days in March too. I think its time now.
No one around here has drilled any in Feb which is bizarre there's one very good beet grower who always has some in at the end of Feb but they've only just started.
I agree the time is spot on for beet now.
I’m away snowboarding next week. Maybe Dad will get some drilled, maybe not!
You'll be fine in the fens, they don't want to go in to early out there for fear of a late frost. If you drill them When you get back they'll be up in a week.

I don’t believe you’ve got time for a holiday:p

I haven’t, but a friend found a fully catered chalet in Morzine including flights + airport transfers for 4 nights for £440 so I had to find time!

That’s my thinking, but also, the land is mostly ready, and Dad likes to drive the beet drill, so if he does want to get a few acres in next week he should be able to.

Ran out 3 runs short. Bugger buying another whole box having forfeited half a box of neonic seed. Finished off with some three year old fodder beet seed found in the shed. If it grows it does, if it doesn't it doesn't. I am not getting done over for another box of seed which might have to be destroyed with no recompense before next drilling time.

The old Stanhay has been making stately progress this week, just over halfway.

1975 12row Webb drills our beet, pulled by a 1980 Ford 7600, and a 69yo driver. Combined age 152yrs. 8 gallon of diesel a day to sow 40acres a day. Thats less than half a litre of fuel/ha, zero depreciation, most profitable operation they have, I'd wager. (My neighbour, and one of my late fathers best friends) Shame I havent a pic, tidy rig, to say the tractor's done 16,000hrs on a cable driven clock, and is nearly 40yrs old.

Very nice, although by my maths it’s about 2.25 litres of fuel/ha.
