it'll be voice activated. I use it alot on my truck. You feel a wally for a start then soon get used to it!

So it looks like you can stick to what you know from a ranger with 2.0 litre engine and part time 4wd or likely spend a LOT more money and get a more VW version.

Glad I’ve got one of the last amaroks off the line. That looks to American for me. I’ll be keeping my v6 and add a second vehicle of some description instead.

Insted of pratting about, all Ford needed to do was produce a Ranger with an engine that could reliably do 200,000 miles without throwing its guts out.

They already do. It's the same engine in a transit. Odd ones fall by the wayside, but a lot of Transits rack up big milage, loaded to the gunnals, often towing, whilst driven by uncaring Neanderthals.
toyota seem to do alright out of it, still by far and away the biggest 4x4 producer globally
transit engine is the worst engine ever fitted to a landrover, and transits commonly have their engines replaced too. might get the odd one to 200k without engine work but that would be the exception not the rule.

Rust is their issue. There's probably a load of good Toyota engines knocking about with nowt for them to go in

That might have been the case but from experience (current) I'm reckoning hilux unless cared for now have the 10-12 year lifespan of the rest.
Although it's pretty disgraceful that pickups are painted so badly underneath nowadays, I think we just have to accept spending a few hundred quid on painting them, seems silly not to on a £25-30k truck regardless of make
