I think that could be the next move, the reason I tried the forums first as I thought it would be an easier/quicker way to reach more people who could respond easier

Have just been on the tax and mot site and it is stll taxed so at least it has not been scrapped. As it is taxed it will need to have insurance on it therefore your best bet would be to have a quiet word with your insurers regarding the above number plate found in your hedge. You never know the plate in your hedge could have come from a cloned vehicle.
 
just be careful if you take this way …. if you tell this story to your insurers you could get a visit from the police wanting to see number plate and damage to your hedge
