Certainly is
Well if it doesn’t make money I would say that it isn’t sustainable if there wasn’t so many producing at a loss the price would be better over all and I say that as someone milking cows which is the same if not worse for the issue
If you had to prove what you produced had turned a proffit , some % or you stopped farming it would be like cilla black on Saturday night surprise surprise !!!Almost all costings show that nearly every beef suckler herd (& sheep flock) is losing money without subsidy income. Should they all stop their hobbies too?
Yes more horse meat shipped in and less continentals kept on less favoured area farmsYes or up there game you said nearly not all so obviously some make it work if you lost the least profitable ten percent out of the industry I believe it would have a huge impact overall
Nowt wrong with a horse steak aslong as you know it’s a horseYes more horse meat shipped in and less continentals kept on less favoured area farms
Subs certainly distort things a lot. We’ve all seen them folk doing a terrible job by their livestock and most other places in the world they would go bust if it wasn’t for the subs
To be fair we have had pretty much 28 pages insulting each other’s cattle and breeds. Yep, maybe not my finest hour or post but my point remains the same: Why come on a thread and pick faults with others stock of you don’t want or can’t take it back yourself? Be a sad job if we all liked the same thing.Reading through I can’t help but notice yourself that started the insults like , your post about the mans cattle was bang out of order and shows you up big time.
Why shouldn't they just cling on for the sake of it ? why should it irk you ?Oh I know that but it does irk me sometimes when it’s very hard to get your own start as there’s so many just clinging on for the sake of it . I think the next few years with a change in subs will be very interesting
I’m didnt mean age there are some excellent older farmers about and there experience is highly valuable I meant that there are people who quite frankly do such a sh!t job of farming they shouldn’t be doing it but they manage to carry on making a poor living because they get subsWhy shouldn't they just cling on for the sake of it ? why should it irk you ?
Not sure if your talking about older farmers that are just clinging on cos its what they do ? if so what should happen to you when you get to a certain age ? scrap heap ?
We’ve all seen them folk doing a terrible job by their livestock and most other places in the world they would go bust if it wasn’t for the subs
But farming isn't subsidised, you believe that folk shouldn't be free to spend the payment they get on their pet cows if they see fit ?I’m didnt mean age there are some excellent older farmers about and there experience is highly valuable I meant that there are people who quite frankly do such a sh!t job of farming they shouldn’t be doing it but they manage to carry on making a poor living because they get subs

you can’t tell the profit from over the fence I understand that but when you see animals in poor states land having nothing done in the way of looking after fences or drains or inputs and stuff been taken off I’m sorry but they are terrible farmers if they can’t look after the land or the animals they have no business doing itThe point is it's not just those that you think are 'doing a terrible job' that are losing money without sub, many of those seemingly doing a 'good job' are in the same boat. The vast majority are buggered without the subsidy prop, just a lot don't even realise it yet.
They produce for the same price as anyone else, the fact they make a loss is neither here nor thereAnd it irks me because they for one drag the industry down suppress market prices producing at a loss and they hold up people who might make a better job of it having a chance
if they are pets yes if there pretending it’s a business noBut farming isn't subsidised, you believe that folk shouldn't be free to spend the payment they get on their pet cows if they see fit ?
Yes it is because they wouldn’t be doing it without been propped upThey produce for the same price as anyone else, the fact they make a loss is neither here nor there
