The thing is everyone has a point , it pays to keep open minded and flexible to trying something different things change and we need to change with them.
If what you're saying is correct, what about these folks paying a quarter mil for a carcase on crooked legs.Is for them but it makes it harder for the folk who aren’t doing it as a hobby
It won'tThere’s no explanation as far as I can tell but if they can make that pay we are definitely missing a trick
Not sure why,Is for them but it makes it harder for the folk who aren’t doing it as a hobby
So what do you do with all the money you make ?The bit I can’t get my head around is the fact we moved away from native cattle purely because we couldn’t sell the bloody calves to mount up into any real money.
Now we’ve changed definitely for the better from my angle perspective I seem to get shot with shyte saying it’s wrong and I should go back
No bloody way
I didn’t choose what folks want to buy I had to adapt to what they wanted
Also I don’t have any £3000 cows not one
I can however sell £1250 bullocks of £700 cows with a decent bull
I can get £1100 average for a wagon load of 14 months old stores off a mix of cows
I couldn’t see me managing to achieve this with anything else
Buy landSo what do you do with all the money you make ?
Just messing

We switched from Hereford bulls to British blue and changed nothing else and the sale price for the calves went up around 100 quid, this was back when you were lucky to get 500 quid for them, using the blue bull was no more hassle in comparison nor was rearing the calves, as you say its a job to walk away from that sort of gain but each to their ownThe bit I can’t get my head around is the fact we moved away from native cattle purely because we couldn’t sell the bloody calves to mount up into any real money.

By 14 months I'd be pretty upset if they weren't that on an average year. The bit I can’t get my head around is the fact we moved away from native cattle purely because we couldn’t sell the bloody calves to mount up into any real money.

Oh aye, I've heard a blue bull can be run with a bunch of old rag tags and 1 titters and eat scraps then go out and top the markets no bother.I wouldn't suggest that @egbert goes out and buys a British blue bull though as he probably knows what works best on his place
having said that the SD cross Belty cow we bought from his relative produces a good calf with the blue bull on her but she isn't half fat, the living is way to good here.
You haven’t told us what yours make thoughBy 14 months I'd be pretty upset if they weren't that on an average year.
they're a banging cross, although obviously you've got to watch the SD bull for size on Gal cows.I wouldn't suggest that @egbert goes out and buys a British blue bull though as he probably knows what works best on his place

Errr the customer asked for Angus that you constantly slagg off that’s what they asked for and that why people keep them , perhaps if you didn’t keep slagging them off you would attract getting shot with sh!t as they are just doing as you think you are doing. The bit I can’t get my head around is the fact we moved away from native cattle purely because we couldn’t sell the bloody calves to mount up into any real money.
