hi all ,i have just aquired a mf 2640 which needs work and im wondering are they a collectors tractor ,if they were i wouldn mind restoring it ,while im here i also have a mf 178 and im asking the same question both tractors need a bit of work ,all replies would be appreciated

I think any classic is worth saving. The 178 will have more appeal to more collectors than the 2640, as the 2000 series tractors seem to have been overlooked.
The 2000 series are getting thin on the ground now though, and as with other later classics, there could just be a generation around the corner ready to take them on, as prices of earlier classics get out of reach.
You’re in the right country though for those that appreciate MF’s, but if this had been an enquiry for Ford, you would have had several replies before now !

True enough, but 2000:series would take a bit more looking after!
True. Problem with the 178 is most farms doesnt have any kit anymore that a tractor like that could actually use as it wouldnt have the power, lift capacity, grip or enough spools so it ends up relegated to linkbox duties whereas the 2640 is still pretty useable and the fun/worthwhileness of ownin a toy is to get in the seat on a nice day and go work with it

Your right, but the op was regarding as a Classic, no a general day to day tractor, the 178 probably would be a novelty, tractors and machine’s have grown so much in modern day Agriculture,

the 178 would be sold when its done up ,but i got home the 2640 yesterday and it needs a lot of work to totally restore it but to tidy it up windows door brake master cyl ,clutch slave cyl seat cables etc would leave it a great workhorse for a farmer who needed a big old yoke for mowing slurry etc ,im just thinking thats all ,im not a mf man as i have dealt mostly with fiats for the last 30 years
