Any less than 50 is pointless as it takes the length of time on a 50 to get milked
Yes and no. Plenty finished in 5 minutes, others in 10. Some more.....that's the whole point of a rotary really. Your not waiting for 1 cow to finish.... 30 unit though.....problem i see (have it here anyway with a 50 at times) is pushy cows. If the platform is going to slow (and it would be at a snails pace foe a 28/30) sometimes the cow behind the one waiting to get on can start pushing the one in front into the bail where one has just got on (if that makes sense), resulting in the first cow almost ending up in feeders .....nice constant cow flow works well ....

Stinker I realise with a rotary you don't see your cows for long but if you think about it robot guys never really see cows being milked at all. I'd go for a rotary with a good herd management software. That way you can still see the cows twice daily albeit for a short time but then have the software to flag up potential problems.
You need auto I'd for sure so retained cows can go around again and not be fed again if your feeding. Retention bars don't pick up on everything though. They won't know if a quarter hasn't been milked properly or if you missed a mastitis when putting the unit on. You can put more gimmicks on the parlour but then why not have a bigger parlour with no tech and milk with 2. If it's a one man I would go internal.

Evo farming are putting in 2 24/48 side by side. 700 cows. 350 an hour. Better than any rotary.

Evolution farming say one man in each parlour and to do that output the operator will have to apply one unit every 10.2 seconds . I am sure the operator will be fit as to keep up that rate he will be running and that is not allowing for any problem cows .
One man parlour . I would like to watch and see what routine is employed .

Title says 28-30. Why are we bringing up mid 40s to win and argument that is not even being discussed.
Who's starting an arguement? All I've said is the conclusions of other peoples opinions and general observations, nothing uncommon here for sub 30 bale rotaries to retain the yard and dairy but remove the original platform and enlarge it to 40-60 bales. At the end of the day, this is a forum, say what you think, but be prepared to read or listen to other peoples opinions/ideas/reasons, the OP can make their own mind up.(y):D

Mastitis isn't too difficult to detect. I don't pre strip but have the ambic inline mastitis detectors. At any point during milking or at the end of the milking they are checked for mastitis. If one is filter is showing clots then I go into the parlour software and look at what cows was milked on that particular milk meter. Flag the cows up on the touch screen at the milking point and then pre strip the 4 or 5 cows at the next milking to identify the culprit. Usually though when you look at the selected cows in detail on the computer you can pick them out by looking at yield trends. I also have hi cell count cows flagged up on the MPC in the parlour as well to keep a closer eye on them.

Every 20 seconds.
