28/30 point rotary parlours

Yea a lot of fitter rent ideas but I’d say 60 point rotary with auto I’d cluster flush and shedding gates depends on yield but still best go 60
Yes but amount of animals being milked is a consideration - folks like me asking about small rotary are looking for something to milk 150 to 250 cows.

I run a 24 point external rotary doing a dry wipe, strip and auto teatsprayer milking 250 cows.
Nearly all cows are fast milkers so its basically as quick as one man can milk
Thanks - this is sort of info I am looking for-
Is it in long - I find it hard to get a quote from any manufacturer - they all want to put in 40 or more units .
I would never put in 30 unit herring bone but a 24 unit herringbone would be sensible and 24 unit rotary has to be easier to operate

There’s a 24 point Rotoflo rotary the other side of the village from here. Been in 30 years, never heard of any problems, water takes a long time to wear out!
Just make sure if the water under the platform doesn't supply the troughs out in the fields, imagine what happens when you get a leak.....🤔😆

Given the cost of setting up a new milking parlour the cost of a 30 bail rotary would only be marginally less than a 40 or 45 given the basic complexity of the plant.
One wonders over the last 50 years just how many rotary parlours where the farmers have regretted not going larger from the start than have wished going smaller?

Approx 15 years, Go for a double I beam deck. If I was you for one man 28-30 would be perfect with retainers or auto pause the rotation and you'll milk 100-150 /hr

I’d say auto pause to the rotation would be a big no, no! Remember being told about an internal rotary, everything going sweetly during milking until the rotation stopped due to an unfinished cow, all cows on the platform lifted their tails ! That parlour now gone , replaced by a much larger external rotary.

McKnight Dairy Services have a 28point rotary at their own farm so would be worthwhile speaking to

If you don’t need a rotary, don’t get one. I can’t see the cost being justified on a small one and there is no way it will run cheaper than a herringbone.

If it’s what you really want that’s your call. @Thomas-milmain, what’s that one in your area? 40 point for 150 cows?

This is more like what I would be looking at putting in

cows sh#t me to tears

Trust me, if you want to feed on the platform, good luck with a 28 to 30 unit. Our cows push constantly to get on a 50 unit with a 13sec bale rotation. To the point that the 2nd cow behind the one waiting to get on pushes the one in front into the one that has already got on quite regularly. It's a pita when it happens. Be worse on a platform going super slow.

Yep, but have to feed the cows to make the milk to pay for the rotary. Being a PITA seems like the entire concept - spend less, milk less, less time clawing it back
