A very elementary weather question.

At 8.15 am today Sat Feb24 our Davis weather station reading was -2c (-4cwind chill) outside humidity 88%,bright sunshine and clear blue sky.
Can someone explain how the humidity is so high and does the high humidity make it feel even colder (raw) due to the high humidity?
Thanks in advance for any info.

Condensation on your sensor? Early morning moisture in the air. Our humidity was about 90% first thing, but forecast to drop into the 50s by lunch.

Relative humidity RH is the ability of air to hold water.
Cold air will hold less volume of water than warm air simples really. That why you get fog in the evenings and it disapaites in the mornings as it warms up.
Pressure also affects RH to a certain degree.

I understand what you say,but that is why I am puzzled at 85% Humidity at outside temp of -2c, with brilliant sunshine, clear visibility and not a cloud in the sky, if it was really foggy I could understand . I must be being a bit thick :scratchhead::scratchhead::asshat:

Possibly the incredible amount of damp in the soil, steaming out and up in the sunshine- and past your humidity sensor. We're the same here, you can see the steam rising off the ground, but only around 1C on the weather station (not a fancy one but does the job).
