Don’t like buying stuff, enjoy the end result, don’t like the process.

looking to replace a tractor with something in the 170/180hp range ideally no more than £70/75k so in the 4-6000hr area.

Few key criteria:
6cyl
Ideally vario
Not too heavy
Manoeuvrable (for traile planter)
Comfy cab, decent seat.
high level headlights

preferably either Case Puma, NH T7, Valtra T series or Fendt 700 series.

Interested in peoples experiences of these models in higher hours, what specs and what sort of service costs/ repair bills have been encountered.

Shortlist of the above brands/models made from going on past experiences and local dealer back up.

Thanks.
give the new caseih dealer at forfar a go. surely they will manage to source one for you.

I would go for NH or case because the autocommand/CVX box can be rebuilt for about £6k, which i believe is a fraction of the cost of replacing a vario or autopowr box

Higher houred Valtra vario tractors i have locked at in the past have all been problematic. One main dealer told me to avoid any over 5 thousand hours.
I read your reply earlier today then looked at the dash in our valtra vario to see we’ve just turned 5000hrs. 😕

So thanks Matthew, there’s something else to worry about! 🤦‍♂️🤣

Did the tray fit the fastrac ok?

Well they are£160,000 new now, to much money imo, but they are a nice tractor to drive, plenty of life left in it and would still be cheaper to run than the ford you mentioned.
Nothing against fendt, but not sure how you can say a 7k hour fendt will be cheaper to run than a 1k hour new Holland, just a few posts after someones identical fendt needs a new vario box at 8k hours.

My 2 pence worth would be .

Case /NH and JD vario will put more power to the ground than fendt this is from a lot of JD experience and demo experience of the rest.

Going off neighbour's and friends experience Case would be a safer bet than NH

I know you said further down your pretty much against JD's for various reasons but one was maneuverability but on the right tyre gear theyllnot be top bad

Or

a Ford for less money with 1/6 of the hours on the clock and 90% better tyres
He asked for comfort that kinda rules out cnh offerings compared to the competition...
Also he will find one for less money more to the size and spec he needs, a 718/ 720 lets say because that's a 160hp tractor you compared to a 240hp id bloody well hope it was cheaper

Our 8000 hr 724 has just blown its vario, big expense. Word is that this seems about the average hours for a vario box. Don’t know if this applies to other makes, must do if they use the same unit.
How much roughly does it cost to replace the box on a fendt if you don't mind me asking?

They don't all go at those hours, the people that blow up the varios can stuff the powe shifts just the same, it's all about how there driven. What i ment was long term ownership would work out better value.

Thank you.

Wouldn’t rule anything out totally, just had a bad deal with a 30 series. To be fair also had 2 7810s (one that the 30 series was supposed to replace) one left with over 14,000hrs with minor interference. Neighbour gets on well with his R series, got some in the 12-13,000hr range. Maybe should be bit more open minded.
