They don't all go at those hours, the people that blow up the varios can stuff the powe shifts just the same, it's all about how there driven. What i ment was long term ownership would work out better value.
I can’t see how the depreciation on £70k tractor with 7000 hours isn’t going to be anything but horrendous. Trade would offer less than £30k when it hits 10,000 hours.

not to mention that tractor needs 10k in tyres before you even start

I quite like fendts but I have to say I can't think of any situation where that particular fendt would be better value long term than the NH mentioned. Fendts break down too you know.

No way, have you seen what the dealer's are asking, you can't buy a 20 year old 716 for that.

Thank you.

Wouldn’t rule anything out totally, just had a bad deal with a 30 series. To be fair also had 2 7810s (one that the 30 series was supposed to replace) one left with over 14,000hrs with minor interference. Neighbour gets on well with his R series, got some in the 12-13,000hr range. Maybe should be bit more open minded.
We've twice tried other brands as we're not R fans we've a few 30 series and 1 20 series and a 10

1st other brand was a disaster current one is good but it's no JD .

They all break down so if you're doing big hours get a few on demo and make sure you like it to drive

Can you find a 724 10,000 hour for 30 grand? Id be shocked if you can find a 820 at said money

That might be the case but when we used to have a lot to do with the workshop everything was a first for them ( never seen that before) despite it being the second or third time on our machine 🤣🤣
I think they all say that don't they?
Probably something to do with the fact that they're not really allowed to discuss things like that with the public because it will result in a loss of job if the big bosses find out, (probably written into their contract) so they always have a story for customers to keep them happy.
There's a few on here take it all as gospel though.

Unlucky I we would say.
You could say that about any breakdown 😂 from what I've heard 8k hours is fairly average for a Vario box, whether it's fendt or any other brand. The fendt box doesn't last any longer than an autocommand on average but costs twice as much to put right. Fendts are high spec and comfortable but value is not their strong point, no matter how long you keep them. If it costs you 40k extra at the start and twice as much to repair the gearbox, do you really think it will be worth an extra 46k over a NH at 10k hours? That's before you consider the cost of money for the extra £40k over however many years you own it, likely at least £5k unless you already have it sat in the bank doing nothing.

I always think the problem with young ish second had tractors is, they have either been on a hire fleet or on a farm with a regular renewal process and the drivers know it, so they're not always driven very well.
It doesn't take much to bugger a set of brakes or put excess wear on a transmission etc.
Why would they care if its getting shifted at 2000 hours?

I would choose a fendt box over any other, buying 2nd hand is a risky business, the way I see it is, if the vario did go The dealer may help you out with the labor but you have a tractor with a new box at the end of it. Farmers must keep buying them as demand is high.

What’s the story with jd direct drive gearboxes are they good?
Would you still consider a 6195m?

Obviously no autopwer but was meant to be the JD 7810 successor.

I had a demo of a DD 6215r and was underwhelmed. Dealer was very pushy I should buy it instead of auto power.

Stick to a gearstick or go autopower
