We have a 2006 5445 we bought it secondhand It started is life on a caravan park. We were looking for a 2wd Deere and saw it advertised
Now it lives on a straw blower it only comes off to drive the mobile dryer
I don’t thing the linkage has ever been used
Brilliant around the buildings Its looked after as I think it will take some replacing

Walking around the farm yard in Canada on my first day there was an eye opener for a 19 year old. A 160ish hp jd 4640 in 2wd was amazing to see.
it ran a bean cutter, bloody sharp blades in vee form on the front linkage. Flat out down the rows cutting them off at the roots.

I didn’t get that job :-( I was stuck on the cast 9170 pulling 30’ discs.
:)
I remember visiting a neighbours farm in Canada, they had a 2wd TW35, with bar axle duals and a loader, that was quite an odd looking arrangement.

When we were looking at 2wd tractors and getting quotes etc we looked at Same tractors. The Same dealer was quite proud of the fact that because the Same tractors had brakes on the front wheels they could have a 40k road speed.
We were looking at an Explorer 100, rather wish we had gone ahead with it, it always looked a nice tractor.

Are these 30's or 28's on the rear of this one? I assume 30's from the picture. Just been wondering how small a wheel and tire you can put on one. Nothing pressing, but have been looking for a lowish profile 4wd massey chassi for the mountainsides. I know you could go as small as 24's on the 42 and 4300 series.

Oh them look smart, I too have a 54 bought second hand with 1500 hours, it had been on a council clamping compound with a car lifter on the back, the spools and pto had never been used. Its turned 6k hours now, nimble and powerful and perfect for manouvering around buildings, blowing straw about

Obviously I'd never do any heavy field work with it

Fantastic machine, blows 50ft easily, full spout swival with enough flap movement to send it where it needs to go, she's quick about it too. There are no knives at all in it, so the straw comes out as good as the day it was baled, which makes for a good bed. Mine is cable control and it has yet to give any issues.

Cheers do you think its a better job not chopped, and does straw go any further than rolling it out. Any problems with the odd dodgy bales

Deffinatly better unchopped, cattle seems to stay cleaner longer, I wouldn't say it's a huge saving re straw usage, but the time bedding down is reduced to a few minutes a day. Had some damp claggy bales threw it, which made it cough a bit but I've never yet blocked it, the blow and the inertia of the massive rotor makes it unstoppable.
