Yes that is right but I would also put '100a three phase supply required' just in case. We had a few queries regarding loads etc when asking for 70 kVA which were unnecessary and makes it complicated. Perhaps we had an awkward engineer!

Whatever you do stay below 100kva, as they will then make you go on half hourly metering which will most likely cost more than the electric you use most months. Think it was 100kva, you might need to check and ask that question as the monthly standing charge, and capacity charge and and any other charge they dream up will be expensive.

Thanks all, sparky said 60amp would be enough but may as well put in 100 while we are at it, online guide price is not that bad but I doubt it will be that simple, all I have asked for is the cheapest pole to come of on our land (choice of 4) and the meter shed will be built 3 metres away from that. Will post when quoted,

just had HH meter removed and supply downgraded from 180kva to 85 kva, to get away from HH costs . You need to go 10% below 100kva to avoid getting the costly meter. Lady at SSe was very helpful with guiding me through the process, some of other providers pretty close to crooks.

Costs are horrendous aren't they? I'd hate to actually need HH metering and have to pay all those charges. Probably be cheaper to go off grid and generate your own.

Just been told by uk power networks that a 100amp 3phase transformer is going to cost 6k that's with out putting it up and tailing wires down to meter,
it will probably be a four man job which will mean they will turn up on site at say 8.30, and get straight in to boiling kettle and reading papers till 10ish, then they will probably need a pee so get out of motors to look up and down pole scratch head pick nose at put high vis on, unload materials from trucks which will bring on lunch time, quick hand of cards and another brew and bite to eat, after lunch fit transformer to pole tail up and about half 3 put kettle on, yawn talk about what they are going to have for tea and what a hard day they have had and head back to yard at 4.30 to knock off at five,
And I will get a bill for 11-12k + vat!!

Correct, new 100kva transformer last year was £10k, it took them half a day with another bloke coming back a week later to upgrade the fuses.

UK Power Networks, earlier this year: Upgrade from single phase supply to 100A/72kVA 3-phase supply was £6700 + VAT. This included my apportioned costs for pole-top transformer upgrade from 50 kVA to 100 kVA.

They supplied/installed new underground aluminium lead-in cable (about 40 metres). I supplied/installed the 'special' 50mm rigid-ducting and did the trenching/reinstatement, supplied a new meter box. Bulk of my charges was the tranny cost. Meter install from eOn was free.
