Good plan only limit being length eh
Apparently there's a marker tape with wire in ?
If i did more running electric fence wire with the new one would be a plan eh.

So just be clear a cable still connected to power one end but capped off at the other can't be detected with one of those scanners? Btw there was no trace of this cable on the UK power networks tablet.
That is my understanding, have been told this by a couple of different very reliable men, one of whom found a cable when a kettle was switched on in a shed. He said he was double checking and marking the live cables when this one appeared, only to disappear when the kettle boiled. Food for thought.

The only person who knew anything about this cable was my neighbour. He vaguely remembers it being put in years ago to supply a unit in a yard behind my property. The yard has since been update and I assume the cable was capped off but not disconnected at source. The UK power networks men didn't believe we had found it as their scanner couldn't detect it. It was only when carefully dug around it that they found it 18" DOWN.

A CAT Scanner will not find plastic unless there's a trace wire and then this works only if you attach a signall generator to the trace wire. An experienced operator will find a disused electrical cable if told where it may be. You can't find it if you don't know where the run is. You can sometimes see the dip where an old trench lies but really only accross an undisturbed paddock.
A CAT scanner will find live cables, electrical, 'phone with ease, an experienced operator will know roughly what their depth is. A CAT Scanner will find iron water pipe, oil tank lines and anything metal that the signal generator can be attached to.
I operate a number of 360 machines and a CAT scanner is my most 'reached for' tool! It isn't a silver bullet but I rarely have disasters with oil lines, 'phone cables & etc.
