Grain drier (tray) at work is the only 3-phase motor and is driven by a generator, only running a few weeks a year. Also have a towable engine-driven power-washer/drain jetter, and towable engine-driven compressor/combine cleaner

how do you identify a 3 phase supply?

3 cables on the over head power lines?

both my neighbours were dairy farms and have 3 cable power lines to them, our supply comes across from one of the neighbours, a 3 cable supply leaves his place, where it used to go to a radar station up on the hill, our supply comes off this line, but our line is only 2 cables- off the top of my head I think they are connected to the two outer cables of the 3 cable over head. so the middle one just stops at a dead end.

then 6 poles over to us. not got much use for 3 phase, just interested really.

If the 3 wires are lined up flat they are high voltage,if there are 4 wires vertical then its been transformed down, this would be a 3 phase supply.

thanks eulb

that's just frustrating then, why didn't they bring 3 phase over the last 6 poles when it was all installed in the 50's.......to be fair it might have been my grandfather being tight!

My quote said 50kva. I don't understand all this kva an what it all means would 50kva be enough to run some lights, a 3phase 350amp welder, a 3 phase 5hp compressor and grinders plasma cutter etc ?.
Interesting, That does sound reasonably priced, but would 50 KVA it be enough to run a electric powered grain drier? I would like 3 phase, but it would need a change of grain drier to electric powered to justify it for me. The biggest mobile driers need more like 80 KVA and smaller models still quote needing 30 KVA, which doesn't leave much of a margin if you have a lot else on at the same time. What they normally need and what it peaks at is another matter.
